Going Stag

Our second stop on Safari this week was on a roleplay grid, where Lavia Lavine has made a pastiche of life in the days of the 'wild  west' where she reinterprets what has often been overplayed in movies, the less savory side of life.
The sim is the setting for play but at its heart are some serious observations, making it interesting for any visitor as a cultural commentary on a famous part of US history. We arrived in the sumptuously glazed railroad station, close to the ticket office.
Lavia Lavine: Stag Hollow is located in the Oklahoma territory in the late 1850s. They were just getting the Trains and Telegraph in.
Lavia Lavine: Stag  Hollow isn't just for RP though that is my hope but it is also for historical value. The western cities and towns were not the dustbowls that Hollywood portrays.: Most of them were actually like this with dirt and gravel roads.

Go Westeros

First stop of the day, and after an exhausting week, inworld and out, this was one of those absolutely perfect tours that we dream of on Safari. New hosts for us, but hopefully they will let us come and bother them again, on Wolf Territories. The sim is called Westeros Medieval RP and as always the HG Address can be found at the end of the post.
Thirza Ember: with all the osgrid thing happening we may be fewer than usual
Steve Zodi: yes, i was  expecting that a bit, but word of mouth is always the best way to let people know, so if a few people show up, even if only one, its good to spread the word
Thirza Ember: lol they can be chatty and rowdy like a bunch of tourists when first arriving... well... they ARE  a bunch of tourists
Steve Zodi: its ok, the important is that they have fun and yes they are
Steve Sodl on hand to welcome the merry band of Safari tourists
Thirza Ember: here they come
Tosha Tyran: all naked again...
Steve Zodi: Greetings to all, welcome
Taarna Welles: Hello Steve
Steve Zodi: yes losing our clothes when teleporting is part of the fun... chuckles
Mal Burns: hi all
Tosha Tyran: hahaha, Forest, I see I am not the only one with the lipstick wrapped around the thigh
Forest Azure: lol... if that was all!
Taarna Welles: why are the woman always naked after TP??? Well....?? *Grins
Tosh Tyran: howdy Mal... why don't we ever get to see YOU naked?
Forest Azure: do we want that, Tosha?
Mina and King Max
Safaristas. You can't take them anywhere.

Playing with Infinity

On sim Sirocco, one of the VAR regions belonging to the 3rd Wind community, on Zetaworlds, Han BoShi, Dolfke Barbosa, Jed Dagger, Ellemir Maven,  Nila Mari and Alia Soulstar awaited the arrival of the Safari crew. What better time to confirm or deny a popular myth about Star Trek
Dolfke Barbosa: am I the only one wearing a uniform?
Thirza Ember: my other avatar has a red uniform on... does that mean I'll get eliminated in the first scenes ?
Nila Mari: /me chuckles
Alia Soulstar: yes, our priority is to thin out security every mission
Ellemir Maven: There was an analysis done that said red shirts are not actually more prone to death and dismemberment.
Left to right, Jedburgh, Alia, Nila and in red, Security Officer Dolfke Barbosa
Dolfke Barbosa: they tend to seed death and dismemberment
Ellemir Maven: lol it does seem to be true of the original series.  I have not checked these numbers... Being a "Red Shirt" on the USS Enterprise is one of the most dangerous jobs in any (imaginary) military. Don't believe me? SiteLogic founder Matt Bailey crunched the numbers: 13.7% of Kirk's crew died during their three-year televised mission. 73% of the deaths were Red Shirts.
Jedburgh Dagger: but as a whole there were more redshirts on the crew
Ellemir Maven: /me gets dol a second red shirt to wear
Dolfke Barbosa: thx for that, Elle, I will wear it with care at my funeral
Alia Soulstar: the dangers of space are best represented by the violent deaths of security
Dolfke Barbosa: Tasha Yar her dead was not necessary for the plot, and she wore yellow
Ellemir Maven: It was necessary for her contract though
Dolfke Barbosa: are you offering me a contract, Elle
Alia Soulstar: with a Christmas bonus... if you reach Christmas

Genesis Evolving

New from Genesis Roleplay grid, getting bigger, better, and every more HG  friendly!
Grid co-owners Lavia Lavine and Tango have increased the overall square mileage of the sim by a significant number, adding 6 new 4x4 regions and 8  8x8 regions.
All but one of these is set to private, but if you're the exploring kind, you will be interested to know that the RP sim The Crucible has now been set so that anyone can visit.  Be ready for a challenging maze when you arrive! Your reward will be some information about the roleplay activity on the grid.

Another new feature of the grid will be the "Showcase Plateau".

Trouble for Safari

This week's opening gambit was a bit of a gamble, but what fun! We went over to Kitely to visit the Catronian Archipelago, a 4x4 roleplaying and sailing sim on Kitely where pirates combat navy, cannons roar, and you'll either end up in the drink, or with a drink... probably rum.
Trouble... but in the best possible way!
Cata Raven and Trouble Ahead
There's nothing rum about this band of friends who came out in force to meet us on the sky island that serves as a TP hub for the various points of interest on the region. If you've never visited this bit of Kitely, it's a total delight. It can be shy-making to drop in on a RP group, because you never know if you're breaking in on their story, but these guys have always been super friendly - here are some of the 'usual suspects' who had just finished a battle royale when I dropped in last week to make sure of my LM.
Captain Bally, Melanie Auxifur,  Till.Uhlenspiegel, Trouble Ahead
For our visit, there was a fantastic welcoming committee, and I guess about 18 Safari tourists, so quite a crowd was forming when we all tp'd over to Kitely...
Melanie Auxifur: greetings All
One Andonly: Ahoy everyone
Jupiter.Rowland: Hello to our hosts!
Cata Raven: Welcome:)
Captain Bally: Greetings everyone

Wyldwood Bayou Beckons!

Starfleet or shaman, medieval merchant or merman, it's that time again, and you're welcome to the Open Market Roleplay event on Wyldwood Bayou grid. There are two roleplay groups here, Ravenquest and Brigantia. Come along and learn about other RP groups in opensim, and help keep the roleplay community vibrant!

Organized by Contessa Lacombe and Fitheach Eun, this is a chance to share what you know and maybe dip your toe in roleplay. Not a recruitment drive so much as a way to better know what's available out there across the archipelago of grids and groups that actively tell stories in a dramatic immersive way. I asked Tessa how she got started.
