Self Guided Trails

Are you at work, or asleep, or otherwise engaged when the HG Safari tours are on? Not everyone is free on Wednesdays at Noon, Pacific time and each season of events lasts ten weeks, with a break of something more than a month between seasons. So if you can't make one of our regular tours, how about the next best thing, a self guided tour.
The Self Guided portals are on at the HG Safari clubhouse, on OSGrid, go to hg.osgrid.org:80:HG Safari and look for this:
The Self Guided Tours will take you to a series of destinations linked by a theme. The themes vary from Fiction to Art to Science to 'Real Places'
Each tour has six destinations. You collect the tour kit - a set of LMs and a simple Notecard explaining the destinations and giving you the HG address, in case the Landmark lets you down.
Destinations are numbered but not because you are supposed to see the places in order - it just makes life easier.  The Landmark givers have pictures of the destinations, to give you a clue about the kind of places you'll see.
Just to get you started, there is a portal taking you to Destination 1 of each tour, so once you have grabbed the LMs, you can walk through the portal and be instantly on your way.
Because there are so many outstanding artists in OpenSim, there are half a dozen tours just to Art destinations. Some are immersive installations, some galleries; some are solo exhibitions while others are dedicated to groups of artists, or show art collections not made by the region owner. Each tour will take you to 6 art destinations on 6 different grids, they are not themed, but give you the opportunity to explore, compare and contrast the huge variety of artistic endeavor in opensim.
There are also themed tours that go to regions of special interest for film and book lovers, science, history, and real world places. For the most part, the selected regions are fully dedicated to the subject indicated, rather than a mashup of places/themes - not that there's anything wrong with mashup regions ! There are so many 'real life' regions in opensim, that you will find three tours of them in our collection - Elephant, Zebra and Giraffe.
Among the real places you can visit are Mont Saint Michel in France, The Taj Mahal in India, Fallingwater, the Frank Lloyd Wright house in Pennsylvania, Nicola Tesla's house/workshop, the wilds of the Australian coast, and Paris' Opera house. Something for everyone looking to to a bit of globetrotting without leaving home.
The Self Guided Tours are a work in progress, so if you do not see a place that you consider merits to be included, please leave an IM with Thirza Ember, and be patient - it takes a bit of time to put each tour together.
Hoping you will find this just another way to get out and discover a little bit more of what opensim has to offer.
