Poppy's Arrival - Coming Soon!

For a very long time, Poppy Fields has been in SL (and still is sometimes, she has a club there) but she has always explored various worlds. Then, she says... one day she found herself here in Opensim... 

Poppy Fields: ... and I kind of hung my hat here. I am creative both here and in SL. But somehow my creative side is encouraged more here.

We met on Poppy's sim Mistburry on Osgrid, where preparations for the latest project are well under way. Called 'Arrival'. Coming in August, it's a multimedia experience that will be performed inside the theater, called simply 'The Box'. 

Poppy Fields: A special shout out to my partner Rachael Cooper for being so patient with me working on this  ...so many evenings standing here watching me work ! This upcoming show is a story told in pictures combined with stage sets, music and lights. It's not quite a club and not quite a gallery. We're telling the classic story of finding love, losing it, and re-united. exploring the relationship between humans and machines

Thirza Ember: and 'arrival' - what does that refer to?

Poppy Fields: the arrival of artificial sentience - I mean an AI that is more advanced that it is at present,. AI with empathy.

Obviously we don't want to give away too much of the upcoming show, which will be held after the end of the Osgrid birthday celebrations, [Osgrid Birthday festivities are from 28 July to 3 August] with two showings of Arrival, one for East and one for West time zones. The performance is made up of 13 scenes and lasts an hour (followed by an afterparty) and it will be advertised in OSW and on Discord, using shareable invites, and other places too no doubt, so keep your eyes peeled for that!

Entering The Box, the media is vibrant and energized, and the pictures and scenes will be projected at the end of the room, giving plenty of space for everyone to dance  and become immersed in the experience. There's no dress code for the event but something futuristic would be good, if you've got it, why not flaunt it.

A little taste of the upcoming show, Arrival.

The core concept of the show was to get photographers to illustrate each act with pictures taken in virtual worlds. Poppy immediately came up with some resistance to that. The all pervading fondness for generating AI images using prompts, rather than taking the trouble to set up and then capture scenes inworld, made it a bit of a challenge for her to find people to work with.  

Poppy Fields: Don't get me wrong. I think AI is a great tool, however, I think that's a shame - look around you. Everything you see in these grids is the result of somebody's creativeness. Find locations, outfits, poses, lighting - be creative. we all know what AI can do. we don't yet another display of it... I felt, ok, you'll be finished in 2 minutes then. what will you do for the rest of the day?

Plus, this is kind of good news too, because if you're someone who still likes to take authentic photos, and showcase some of Opensim's beautiful places, you know know where there is an ally and who knows, maybe you can participate in the next presentation! 

Along with The Box venue, you are welcome to explore the rest of Mistburry, which is also home to a shopping Expo which is designed to help you locate and advertise asset emporiums, wherever they may be - take a look perhaps you'll discover your new favorite store. And be ready for Arrival, when it gets here in a week or two.
