The summer is coming, and while this blog will continue to have new posts, the weekly hypergrid Safari trips will be on hold until September 6.
The final stop of the Spring season was at the Grand Opening of a virtual gallery. It showcases the pictural art of late Jerry Garcia, best known as the lead guitarist and vocalist of The Grateful Dead.
Peter Agelasto opened the ribbon cutting ceremony with a few words.

Peter Agelasto: Hello friends, family, sisters and brothers. Welcome to the opening of the Virtual Jerry Garcia Archive Museum, We are so grateful to have you join us for such a special event and free concert. Thank you everyone who has helped bring this to joyful place life... Manasha and Keelin Garcia, my teammates over at the Jerry Garcia Foundation. Huge special thanks to the creators behind the Neverworld Grid. Govega and your team.
Peter Agelasto |
Peter Agelasto: Your music and art fills our homes and are hearts no matter whether if we are here "inworld" or out there in our physical world. Your creativity and purpose still burn brightly, lighting this world with sense and color and hold away despair. There is no end to the beam of light you started. It shines always and forever. We jumped on and will continue to let it shine. We will let it shine. The joy, the music, the good natured mischief. So I ask you to join me. Turn on your lovelight and let it shine.
Look around and see that there are no strangers, just friends we haven't met yet. Give thanks for all that is good. Bless this space and the spirit avatars that occupy this brave new world. I'd like to recognize the energy in this place. Let's all give our own blessing on this glorious opening day. Give thanks for Jerry, his art, the music and sharing the role as a fellow traveler on the life road. Let's live. Let's be grateful, Let's follow our spirit with out hesitation.
James Atlloud: Thanks is given.
Peter Agelasto: Love is the way my friends. Without love in a dream it will never come true. Look at this dream that has come true and feel the love flowing in each of us. We are one. All is well. On with the show and the ribbon cuting!
JairRohm Wells |
JairRohm Wells: Bravo, Peter!
Govega Sachertorte: thank you Peter, so heartwarming
lifted.pixel: /me makes that 'crowd goes wild' noise... haaaa haaaa
The ribbon cut, we all made our way into the building. Don't be fooled, however, by the sign just inside the entrance... while thanks are justly given to the many contributors to this region, one name is left off the list - Govega Sachertorte, who put the whole thing together, and came up with so many special details that add to the verisimilitude and classy atmosphere of the gallery.
Govega Sachertorte: everyone click on the placards for more info or the Info buttons below the paintings. After you enjoy the paintings please stroll the gardens which also have art
Keelin Garcia: thank you all!
Manasha Garcia: Thank you :)
Manasha Garcia |
Thirza Ember: Manasha is there a picture here that you are particularly fond of?
Manasha Garcia: I love the early oils and California Mission. :)
Thirza Ember: Is it true some of these were doodles, that nearly got thrown away or lost?
Manasha Garcia: Yes, Jerry was very humble. not attached to stuff. So much a teacher . xo
Govega Sachertorte: thank god they didn't get tossed
Govega Sachertorte: there is a second floor. The display cases have some personal things of Jerrys rendered in 3D
Govega Sachertorte |
The gallery is of course mostly dedicated to 2D art- doodles, sketches, watercolors and more that Jerry made over the years it's easy to forget that he actually started out as an Art student before getting serious about mussic, and all his life, considered himself such.
Govega has added lots of features - look for them all - the jellyfish, the phone, the guitar, the analog reel are just a few of them - that bring to life the everyday and the extraordinary elements of a singular life. Many items are scripted and will take you into even more depth about the body of work represented here.
Govega Sachertorte: this display case has some mementos from a recent event featuring his art at the History of Diving Museum and a video tour of the museum.
Tosha Tyran: hehe, when in the USA I had a telefone just like that
Jerry Garcia Digital Archive Museum: whispers: To immerse yourself in the multi media experience of the collection-- make sure you bring up your media prefs- (top toolbar hover under the musical note *) media auto play enable: Click the boxes for: Allow, Play and Enable media. Click save. You may have to toggle/click start all. Archive staff can help you if you cannot see the multimedia. Sebastien Balthazar
Andron Rae: it was hard to get my strat in so we made a few bits into textures and cheated, my Canadian friend Luc Larabie made it for me, he's amazing at Blender
Govega Sachertorte: I did a few models for the NPCs musicians, I did a replica of Jair Rohms Guild bass guitar
Yara Eilde and Alex Salamander inspect the guitar |
skari cheri: Great collection of his paintings!
Andron Rae: me too
Peter Agelasto: Jerry's art looks so great in here
Lucy Afarensis and Nara Nook take in the rainbow colors |
Peter Agelasto: Jerry sang his paintings and painted his solos
Manasha Garcia: He was an early digital artist. He would appreciate this new way of seeing...
Peter Agelasto: I believe Jerry would absolutely be tripped out seeing all of this - such a new and modern experience, great vibes here.
The Museum visit was due to be followed by a concert beamed inworld via Youtube, on the giant screen behind an NPC representation of the band Rainbow Full of Sound,Things didn't quite exactly go to plan, with some hiccups for most of us in getting the screen to work correctly. But I'm pretty sure you can find videos of Grateful Dead concertson the internet, likewise the band Rainbow Full of Sound - oh! here's their website!
Keelin Garcia, Jerry's daughter, at the concert venue |
However, that didn't stop us having a lot of laughs watching Tosha 'sing' for us, and all the doobie and beer jokes you can imagine.
Once you have visited the Museum, it's worth taking a trip over to the nearby sim Moonglow any time, to experience the funfair and pick up some hippy clothing from the freebie booths.
So ends our Spring season of Safari trips.
See you all in the Fall.
