The OSGrid Auction is coming !
This year, the grand sales event will be from 25 September - 1st October.
That means, if you're a creator, builder, scripter or texture maker, now is a good time for you to create something original to contribute to the mix. The items are gathered now, put on an exhibition region where everyone can take a good look, and then auctioned off for real money to support the costs of keeping the Test grid of opensimulator on the rails.
Auction organizer Caro Fayray was on the sky platform on Echo 1. The platform is empty as of now - so - is it too soon for people to begin building, and contributing their creations to the Auction?
Caro Fayray: Not at all, stuff can be given anytime:)
Coordinating any big event can be a hassle, but Caro seems to take it all in her stride with unflappable good humor. Is it a complicated job?
Caro Fayray: getting people to commit and give me stuff in advance is a challenge, I have to bug a lot, and I make over 100 textures for all the boards, then the Auction Lots that fit go here, if not, I have tps to see the original item. There is no limit on the size of the items put up for sale. From smallest jewellery to a complete oar is fine:) but items have to be unique.
Thirza Ember: I think it's a great way for people who may not be able to give much in terms of cash to participate. And a great way for people to get something tangible for the cash the contribute. Something unique.
Caro Fayray: well it is to pay for all your inventory stuff to be saved on the servers, so if you have huge inventory you need to donate....the servers for OSGrid cost, and all the Admins work for free, keeping the grid afloat. The auctions are fun. We usually have enough for 3 auctions.
Each of these spaces will be filled with an item up for sale in the Auction |
Caro Fayray: The deadline for handing over items for the auction is 15 September, more or less... but please, before if you can. You can give your Auction item to any of the OSGrid Admins - that's Dan Banner, Foxx Bode, Sarah Kline, Aussie Envee, Wizard Atazoth, or to me, Caro Fayray. It is important to say the items must not be for sale anywhere else...or out to copy on land, and must be their creation, because people are paying real money for them. Obviously the creator can use, but not resell.
Thirza Ember: so an original creation that you have not distributed previously... can the buyer then maybe then free to copy if they want? Do you have a rule about that?
Caro Fayray: that's on a case by case basis. It is up to the buyer and the creator of course. Some may not want them trans for instance, but they should be mod and copy for the buyer
Caro Fayray: The theme this year is Mad Maxx/Apocalypse for the fundraiser, but people don't have to stick to that, their contribution can be anything any theme they want. Some people like at least to have a starting point for creating, but it is up to them.
Thirza Ember: This is an OSGrid Auction, does that mean only local residents contribute and participate?
Caro Fayray: umm...mostly, but I have some hg ppl who have contributed too, and many have several avatars in different grids. After all, the test aspect of osgrid serves the whole community. Without osg - no test grid for opensim.
ty thirza..great plug:)
