The second destination on this tour was also very special - a chance to meet a builder and storyteller from Mobius Grid. We were on sim Phos - as always, the HG Address is at the end of the post - and the arrival point is a small island, just off the main build... from here you walk down onto the dock and through the teleport - first accept Experiences, which allow you to get the full effect of the sim!
The teleport takes you to the giant tower which is full of portals taking you all over the sim, to places high in the sky as well as many neat places at ground level.
Knight Knox, also known by his Display Name KAZO the FOX (Mobius is the only grid in Opensim that we've visited so far to have SL style Display Names enabled) immediately began by giving us a bit of the backstory.
Knight Knox, aka KAZO the FOX |
KAZO the FOX: The story of Phos on the planet Daqtheion can be best told starting like this: Phosfortia was the first planet in the system that started the story, but that planet was destroyed by a threat from space (cyberspace). Now that planet is the destroyed one you see in the sky over the Desert Zone. The main resident here Kaze the Fox got in his spaceship and escaped Phosfortia before it got pulled into the void. He traveled through space looking for a new home and found Daqtheion. Its named that because its a place that has multiple climates that range from hot to cold. The name is unique but the original languages it was made up from is lost to time.
Thirza Ember: I love these awesome teleport rings, look at the image in the middle... it's really fancy
Lavia Lavine: almost mystical
Thirza Ember: we're in the heart of the sim now...
KAZO the FOX: Daqtheion is surrounded by dwarf planets, each one has a unique climate that covers its entire surface. There is abandoned space stations and other things lost in space here. Be careful not to get lost in the void. Parts of this system are being pulled into the void, frozen in time and space. The only chance to escape this fate is to use the tower at the center of Phos to safely go to each of these worlds. If your brave enough to venture into the depths of space using one of the ships found at the Desert Zone be careful not to get lost, you might just end up in the void.
KAZO the FOX: The center ring there goes to the Green Hill sim, haven't put a label on it for that yet, but that is for a quick travel to the main social area of Mobius Grid, if anyone wants to use it another time... but let's go to the Ice Area, it's one of a best locations on the ground level
James Atlloud: wow, those tp's work great.
Lavia Lavine: And I didn't bring my winter coat
Thirza Ember: brrr! James, crocs in this weather???
KAZO the FOX: alrighty this is the first location I want to show. this place is about climates and extreme opposites in environments
Mal Burns: yes - very quick
George Equus: Very elegant!! And instant rez
KAZO the FOX: alrighty lets go up to the large crystal castle, there is a ring there to a space station. though we can save that later in the tour, since it takes some time to see
James Atlloud: How do we learn spin-dash? Do we need to?
KAZO the FOX: oh and one thing may need to turn up your draw distance to 1000 if you want to see far off stuff and just set the sky to midday legacy, the shared environment one is a bit too bright after the pbr mirror update
Bink Draconia: wow, all the glowing cubes and crystals look awesome
KAZO the FOX: is one reason this place is called Phos, all the light effects,,, this way to the castle
Lavia Lavine: it's cold but it's warm
KAZO the FOX: the castle has a basement and a balcony though can go there on your own time if you don't want to cam around, we can jump to the space station or back to the hub tower from the space station
We found ourselves on the giant space station, Akogo, above you can see where the ships come in for maintenance and general docking. It's important to point out that if you would like to fly around on this sim, there is a small spaceship rezzer at ground level, in the desert section - hunting for it is part of the fun, and the little ships are fast and easy to pilot.
KAZO the FOX: this is the extended hangar for large ships
Francisco Koolhoven: that's such an efficient tp, and it's so smooth
Karsten Runningbear: i see Andromeda :)
George Equus: Excellent tp system!
KAZO the FOX: alrighty from here can go to the drilling station...
James Atlloud: Can I sit here?
lifted pixel: lol yes
James Atlloud: lucky it didn't 'splode!
Karsten Runningbear: hope we got enough air inside :)
Thirza Ember: something dangerous!
KAZO the FOX: now to show the prize
This whole build is a sort of treasure hunt, with fabulous unusual gifts like this tree, carried by James who, of course, sampled the sitting possibilities of the giant containers. The trick is to keep your eyes open for small but very distinctive looking boxes, which contain the prizes. But if like me you're not very good at hunting, you'll still have a wild time exploring the many many rooms, planets, tunnels, buildings, and environments on this build. KAZO the FOX: that is an older map of the sim on that, above it is some views of the planetary skyboxes of Phos, around it shows you a solar system map
lifted pixel: those are the dwarf planets the rings are teleporting you to?
KAZO the FOX: ya the rings take you to the planets, the ones with blue outlined text at the main teleport hub go to space, some planets are hidden in teleports at other planets and places, so at least 2 planets are a mystery you have to find
George Equus: This place is definitely warranting a return visit
KAZO the FOX: we can go down to the reactor room next then to the fire planet
Thirza Ember: yeah this is not a hour tour and you're done sort of place
KAZO the FOX: I like to build anything that has to do with space, though the home planet you start at I wanted to look good as well and not just be a place to leave. Feel free to roam around on your own time after the tour and find all the area not linked to the main hub. There is a place for every season, caves, and other oddities, but you will have to look everywhere to find them all.
KAZE the FOX: This is Phos its named that cause of all the light emitting things here, you can find your way around even at night. The reason why its also named Daqtheion is cause that would be the name of the planet that Phos is on, there are other planetary locations here to explore. Daqtheion name means dwarf of frost fire, is just a name I came up with while searching for words in different languages. The locations here range from hot to cold, and there are also planetary locations that are either hot or cold. Most of these planets would be considered dwarf planets, since are very small. I can't remember the original words I combined, but another one here I do remember is Akogo is from the Ewe language and it means alone. Its the name of a space station here that is hidden, best way to find it is to look for the zone with the purple crystals.
lifted pixel: very cool - lore core
KAZO the FOX: the reactor is safe as far as i know
James Atlloud: always keep a rad pill on hand
lifted pixel: i can taste metal
Tosha Tyran: captured in a globe of be radioactivity
lifted pixel: TRAPPED lol ...we will be used a fuel
Karsten Runningbear: we will all die
Taarna Welles: Good spot for a groups photo
Onwards - to the Fire planet which lives up to its name, with this scalding landscape. Everything is perfectly blended, including the up and down teleports - this little pyramid looks like an ancient alien artefact, as well as being a handy way to get around.
KAZO the FOX: so we got 15 minutes, should be able to show at least this place in that time but there is over 15 places here and some hidden rooms you will have to find on your own time :)
Tosha Tyran: it is all real amazing
Lavia Lavine: It just means we need to come and visit more on our own
Tosha Tyran: yes it is vast and has lots and lots of surprising places
We ended by a racing track, with that unmistakable checkerboard effect on the ground. It's the classic challenge here, to run as fast as you can and as accurately as you can, then teleporting from area to area when you get to the parts that require slower exploring skills. The build is classic Mobius but at the same time unique in its story and the wildly different weather depending on which part of the build you're on. It all comes together to feel like a real place, memorable, never entirely grasped and for that reason ever more enchanting.
George Equus: Thank you very much for a great tour KAZO!
Tosha Tyran: absolutely fantastic!
lifted pixel: this is all so well done
Thirza Ember: this has been so much fun, our first Safari of the year
Mal Burns: exhausting
Bink Draconia: thx for the big tour
Tosha Tyran: thanks for all the wonders, KAZO
lifted pixel: mobius grid is dense with quality builds
KAZO the FOX: thanks lifted pixel :D hoping the tour wasn't too fast paced
Thirza Ember: awesome guide KAZO!
Francisco Koolhoven: This was great KAZO, love all the lore surrounding it
KAZO the FOX: if your interested in taking photos for any time of the year
George Equus: Thank you Thirza for a great Safari start!
lifted pixel: great first safari of the year!
