Bit of a different trip this week on Safari as our first destination was at home, in a way. We went over to a brand new grid called HG Safari and visited the place that will be (starting next season, in September) the permanent base for Safari trips. HG Address is at the end of the post, as always!
Thirza Ember: welcome This is the new Safari clubhouse on HG Safari grid
Francisco Koolhoven: nice new area
Thirza Ember: will take a moment to rez, when you do, please come find me at the new Clubhouse seating area
Tosha Tyran: oh, poor little alpaca arrived also...
Ayla Alvarez: this looks strangely familiar
lifted pixel: it's an elephant!
Nara Nook: Everything looks great Thirza
Thirza Ember: Lots of old and a few new bits
lifted pixel: still rezzing for me but i can see BUNNIES
Tosha Tyran: and a dangerous crocodile
Ayla Alvarez: lions and tigers and bears, oh, my
Thirza Ember: we are now on a dedicated region. Please keep this LM! This Clubhouse will become our main base beginning in September 2024. That means, we will continue to meet at the OSGrid Clubhouse for next week's Safari, which is the last of the season.
Thirza Ember: After the final Safari of the season next week, (26 June) the HG Safari region on OSGrid will no longer be our official base, and in a few weeks, it will go offline after almost 3 years. I want to thank Ange Menges for making the region available to me as soon as the idea for reviving the Safari was mentioned in the fall of 2021. He has been a wonderful support to me, and to our group in general. Ange has been such a great sim host, very generous. He immediately offered the region on OSGrid, and has really done his best for us in all this time. We will still of course be doing as many Safari trips as possible to his seasonal builds with nani Ferguson - we love their art!
James atLLOUD: Thanks to Ange
Tosha Tyran: applause to Ange!
Ange Menges: Sorry Thirza I'm late
Thirza Ember: yay Ange we were saying, how wonderful it has been to have the region on osgrid, and thank you for it
James atLLOUD: Are Ange's ears red? (we say that when someone is mentioning our names)
Ange Menges: So can I close the osgrid region now Thirza ?
Thirza Ember: Not immediately, please, Ange ! Next week we still have the Safari event from that region, Ange, today is just a chance for people to begin to be aware of the change... you know it can take some time before all people become aware of a big change to a venue... so,we're trying to make the transition gradually
Tosha Tyran: true
Thirza Ember: so, What are the features of this region? If you cam out and look at the sim from the south, you'll see it has the shape of an elephant. Here you will find the usual clubhouse area or waiting room, with the classic prim that is a Landmarks giver. There is also a place for dancing, if that's your preferred way to wait for the event to begin... like lifted, who often dances at the beginning of every safari
Thirza Ember: You will also find here the HG Safari Archive house. There was one on HG Safari region, but it was quite hidden. This one is more in evidence, and I am slowly filling it with the many treasures of past trips. So please visit often so you can see it as it evolves.
Mal Burns: to dance or sit - that is question eh james
Tosha Tyran: I love the archive here - the one on osgrid I have never seen.
Thirza Ember: This new archive house has a bunch of items from the early days of the safari, and I continue to find little artefacts to add to it
Nara Nook: cool I will check that out
Thirza Ember: as you can imagine, it's a bit of a work in progress, this place does not officially open until September 2024 when the new season of Safari begins but I wanted to show you now, so you can share the LM with people
Thirza Ember: There is a dance floor, 'Safari Paw' on the hill - for many future parties I hope. It's on the elephant's butt, if you have noticed the shape of the land
Mal Burns: unique way of describing locations - reference them by anatomical position
Sunshine Szavanna: yes I see the butt
Thirza Ember: let's all jump or walk to the butt.... walking is healthy
Thirza Ember: and back down the stairs, you'll find the Safari Market in the middle of the sim... again, the Safari market was a feature of the clubhouse on francogrid and on osgrid
Sunshine Szavanna: goodies :)
Thirza Ember: but this version, has fewer of the very old items, and no doubt we will get more new goodies over time... the Meshanthropy store, is here still too - it has Cornflakes stuff, and clothes for men and women, just like the old sim
Thirza Ember: There is also the Self Guided Tours section of the sim. Every year in the summer, I update these LMs and portals, so right now they are all due for a revision, come back in a few weeks to see them if you're interested.
Nara Nook: I thought I would visit some of these regions when Safari is on break
Thirza Ember: a lot of the Lms are still valid on the self guided tours, but obviously in the course of a year, sims move or go offline, like the 3rd rock sims
James.atLLOUD: <sheds a tear>
Thirza Ember: so they all need new Lms and new details. It's a lot of work redoing the portals so that's a summer job for me
Thirza Ember: On a wider look at the Map you will see that the public part of the grid is made up of 5 regions. At the center is 'Safari Sea' = a mostly empty 3x3 region. There are some other regions. To the North is a 1x1 region called Art that will eventually become active (not right now) To the West is Mumble, a 1x1 region that promotes and explains how Mumble can be integrated into opensim code to offer a secure and decentralized alternative to Vivox.
Sunshine Szavanna :) love the name Mumble
HG Safari teleport board |
Thirza Ember: Mumble is open to the public, so you can evaluate the concept at any time, it's a fun sim, maybe another time we can go visit. To the South, is the HIE region, where we will be holding the next Hypergrid International Expo. Instead of using 4 contiguous sims, this time the event will be on a single 3x3 region. This will make some technical features possible and many other aspects of the event a lot easier for both the audience and the organizers.
Francisco.Koolhoven: nice
Tosha.Tyran: this really is nice and exciting
Thirza Ember: so this is just at the first stages of being prepared for the big event, no doubt it will evolve quite a bit during the summer here
Tosha.Tyran: I bet
lifted pixel: it should make all sorts of stuff smoother for everyone to be on a megaregion
Thirza Ember: well, i'm sure a different set of problems and challenges will happen
Mal Burns: as always lol
Thirza Ember: so, as I say, we only just got the new tables this week, and much work awaits over the next 10 months but it's never too soon to ask your friends who are german, dutch, french, italian, spanish, or portuguese - would they like to do a talk in their own language for HIE 2025? We will be looking for speakers, and artists who want to do a 20 minute art performance, just like the last HIE event, which you may remember
Francisco Koolhoven: I haven't been to one yet, look forward to the next one
Thirza Ember:This time we will be able to do a lot more adventurous things in terms of art shows, and eeps, npcs, and so on, because we're no longer on 4 regions, with all those complications
James atLLOUD: w00t w00t
Mal Burns: larger land area will make it easier for sky exhibits etc
Thirza Ember: so, why close down the region on osgrid?... just to make life easier. Since the main clubhouse is now here, and people are NOTORIOUSLY BAD AT READING INFORMATION, if the osgrid sim doesn't exist, people will realize there's been a change. That said, we do still have a venue on osgrid, at the Safari house on Teravus Plaza and of course there's the Avacon region Safari.
lifted pixel: is the one in teravus plaza the same one that's been there?
Nara Nook: Is this in Opensim Worlds?
Thirza Ember: the safari house is right by the market place on Teravus
lifted pixel: i suppose it'll get added to OSW when it's all done?
Thirza Ember: when the current HG Safari region goes offline, i'll be moving the beacon to the new HG Safari region on this grid... today was our first load test there, just to check we didn't crash it :-)
Tosha Tyran: obviously passed the test with best notes
lifted pixel: a lovely new home for HIE
James atLLOUD: very good start - much better than I could even imagine.
Thirza Ember: hopefully it will be a mix of some old favorites and some new things
Tosha Tyran: I am really delighted with both regions!
James atLLOUD: 2025 will/may be a new world in many different ways
Tosha Tyran: ha! Can we explode the old one then, James?
Thirza Ember: so if you would like to do so, we can go over to Sunshine's region on Virtual Worlds Zone grid, and do some dancing in africa!
Mal Burns: woot
Francisco Koolhoven: sounds good!
Forest Azure starts drumming
Thirza Ember: see you over there
