Safari at the Crescent

Yay back on Safari!  Oh, and there are ten weeks of Safari this season, so join us soon if you can! Wednesdays at 12 at the Clubhouse. Our second stop this week was on Winxtropia (addresses at the end of the post, as always).
Here's what we learned from the lovely Bloom Peters of Winxtropia grid who had lost of news about things she's been building recently. There's quite a bit of info on the same subject in this blog post 'Giddy About MIDI', but yesterday's visit geve everyone the opportunity to meet with her in person. We met on Crescent Melody region, under this dome, where the animated orchestra resides.
Bloom Peters: Welcome all. Please,  enable your mic for this experience
Petlove Petshop: Hi Bloom!
Farstar Enoch: hi all
Boujee GamerGirl: hello!
Dorena Bree: i like the sky, its really pretty
Ayla.Alvarez: I'm afraid to ask what the buffer rate is
Bloom Peters: so far 190... not bad. Smart buffer is critical for timing
Bloom Peters: you are free to chat before the show case of course. Today will showcase a brand new viewer created.. as soon as thirza says she is ready. If your mic wont activate do a relog
Farstar Enoch: You need mic enabled to hear the music
Petlove Petshop: ahh ok!
Jade Serenity: i have no mic but i have voice enabled
Bloom Peters: yes that's perfect, as long as u get the dot hehe, you only need to enable Voice checkbox
Neo Cortex: Unfortunately I don't have that voice client on Linux
Nara Nook: I don't have voice either
Thirza Ember: i have voice but it doesn't kick in immediately in a big group but i am sure it will soon!
Bloom Peters: For those who cant get voice not a problem links will be provided for youtube demonstration
Dorena.Bree: great
Farstar Enoch: Bloom has it all covered
Bloom Peters: this everyone?
Thirza Ember: looking... yes i think so...
Video showing Bloom's earliest musical instrument.
Bloom Peters: Welcome to Winxtropia Grid! and thank you for coming! For the past 16 years I had a passion for music and instruments in Second Life first. I was also fascinated by Animusic and decided i wanted to make my own. My biggest goal was to bring MIDI support to opensim but after a two year battle with the developers of opensim its not going to happen.. Well until now! Because I created a brand new viewer that even if you don't like music it has other useful features
Ayla Alvarez: MIDI stands for Musical Instrument Digital Interface, and it is a digital language that lets electronic instruments, computers, and other audio gear talk to one another.
Bloom Peters:  i created a viewer called Crescent Melody Viewer
James Atlloud: amaze!
Thirza Ember: the girl never stops making things
Farstar Enoch: True Thirza, she is always building, making, innovating
Nara Nook: so you could hook your EWI to this and it would work?
Bloom Peters: so, in front here you can see the log in screen, it is a PBR firestorm modified viewer, it is absolutely stock except what i added to it
Taarna Welles: Nice!
Bloom Peters: so i will introduce the midi engine i added to the viewer, this is the user interface of Crescent melody
Jade.Serenity: neat
In the foreground, Boujee, Bloom and Farstar
Bloom Peters: it does have a terms of service, but its not naggy. This software converts midi into in world commands for scripts to pick up, it supports midi input and output meaning you can hook up a real piano to your pc and play in world things in real time. For example my piano - if you look up at the piano in the sky you can see the keys impressing.
Ayla.Alvarez: orange to pineapple
Jade Serenity: the orange slice
Petlove Petshop: where is the piano??
Bloom Peters: in the sky a bit, to my left
Petlove Petshop: ooh nm i see it
Thirza Ember: hehe all the good fruits
Bloom Peters: so with that you can be a musician, stream your music, and visualize it in world. It also supports VST plugins.
Ayla Alvarez: VST plugins are software tools that run inside a recording program to make or change sounds
Jade Serenity: nuts i cant hear it :?
James Atlloud: It's in the Voice volume slider Jade. Also, I had to refresh voice in Preferences to connect to the voice server when I arrived.
Thirza Ember: the quality of the sound coming in through voice is amazing
Farstar Enoch: yes clear as a bell
Bloom Peters: Ah yes it digitally passes through the microphone. There is tons of more features, and above Me there is a fun little MP3 Player built in so you can listen to your music... supports albums too
Petlove Petshop: Bloom this is really awesome!
Farstar Enoch: oh fun
Bloom Peters: it reads from default music folder, and now above me I added new graphics settings
Thirza Ember: i really want to try the viewer it looks like you make using these tools very simple
Taarna Welles: Question about real time: Suppose you have one avatar playing the piano and another avatar singing, will they be synchronized?
Bloom Peters: yes indeed! it will work if they sing on voice!
Taarna Welles: No delay as we had in SL years ago?
Nara Nook: So you can play a whole song inworld without cutting it up
Bloom Peters: yes
Taarna Welles: Fantastic!
Farstar Enoch: she solved all that
James Atlloud: I wouldn't have even imagined it was solvable!!

Neo Cortex: But only midi songs, or can you also play wave file songs, like mp3?
The answer to this question is yes. The MP3 player is one tool, the MIDI player another - and these are just two of the extras available on Bloom's Viewer.
Bloom Peters: so for this graphics is simple, I wanted a few more controls... and now ...the Cinema Camera system. I wanted better filming in world so i created a smooth camera system... look next to me here in the Cinema Camera  you can program camera coordinates, move your camera, push Add.It  records its position in a playlist.
James Atlloud: what?
Taarna Welles: bless you
Nara Nook: wow that is amazing
Bloom Peters: You'll notice Audio and Flight Clip... this allows you to load in a mp3 or audio file, then Audio clip plays when the CAMERA gets there, and Flight Cam as the camera gets there, so you can create timed audio with the camera.
Thirza Ember: it's a lot to take in
Taarna Welles: It's sounds very exiting. Can't wait to use the viewer.

Bloom Peters: and I added a  LOCAL only Weather system!
Farstar Enoch: i love weather
Bloom Peters: Rain, thunderstorm, snow, fog, tornado  you can make a schedule for it in which random weather happens in the sim
Taarna.Welles: No way!
Bloom Peters: only you can see it, because it's Local
Neo Cortex: SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!
Thirza Ember: and don't forget the up and down effects on the water!!!
Bloom Peters: yes i also redid the water, it is 3D now, waves and mini waves etc..
Taarna Welles: This is really a level up.
Neo Cortex: This all sounds like the perfect set of tools to tell immersive stories!
Thirza Ember: please remember, most of the things Bloom has done, are documented on her youtube channel, really worth subscribing to it
Dorena Bree: what is the link to your youtube channel
 Bloom Peters: Main Channel:   https://www.youtube.com/@GirlOnAQuest
Bloom Peters: Crescent Melody Channel: https://www.youtube.com/@CrescentMelodyOpenSim
Thirza Ember: the vids really make it easier to take in all the information, and see each feature specifically explained
Dorena Bree: thanks
Bloom Peters: Next - One of the coolest features EVER and I'm sure some will be excited... I brought REAL VR support to the viewer with controller support! Now you can experience VR in REAL format with controller support
James Atlloud: REAL 3D glasses?
Bloom Peters: yes, VR, you will be in a 6DOF environment inside here, you become your avatar or third person
Petlove Petshop: whoa!!
Neo Cortex: So, can you please tell me how to get all this fantastic stuff?
Bloom Peters: i will release a download link for version 1
Taarna Welles: Nice!
Bloom Peters: For those who are vehicle simulation enthusiasts or likes simulation or driving cars boats etc..
Star Ravenhurst: Raises hand
Bloom Peters: ...it has a USB device mapper... plug in any USB device and map it to in world script controls... for example A on a controller can accelerate a car or you can select joystick to increment it, gas pedal example... you can map up to 500 buttons so its over enough. Control a coaster or traffic lights, etc.

Bloom Peters: that's pretty much the feature set. I focus mostly on crescent melody but i will plish the viewer up. But disclaimer first, before the music comes... The viewer is Home Made modified by me, it is not Digitally Signed, so smart screen or Windows might complain of its safety.  Rest assured my contact information is in the viewer, and i plan to have Second life approve it.
Star Ravenhurst: Bloom is the viewer available for others?
Bloom Peters: yes it is its ready version 1... after a few songs, I will share link
Thirza Ember: Thank you for that super explanation Bloom!
Farstar Enoch: well explained Bloomy
The Crescent Melody splash page is delightfully violet
Bloom Peters: ok now i will prepare to play a few songs, demonstrating what it can do. For starters I have a high end piano connected which will be our sound system,  so no more in World sounds... you can still of course use them if you want and the viewer comes with an OAR with 145 instruments premade, so you can load an oar and play with it right away.
Thirza Ember: I went over to SL and saw this music working on a parcel in SL... was lag free and fantastic even there!
Jojo Apple: nice!!
Bloom Peters: it is 100% safe,  lets load the machine, if you got mic on you will hear it through me... Welcome to the first ever midi support for opensim and SL
Ayla Alvarez: nice visuals :-)
Bloom Peters: if you cannot hear it here is a video
Alex Salamander: bravo
Koshari Mahana: Wow, this is amazing
Bloom Peters: you do not need voice to use it of course this is only if you want others too.. otherwise you can use in world sounds
Thirza Ember: the lack of lag and loading time... really takes the music to another level
James Atlloud: definitely no lag at all
Bloom Peters: since the viewer handles the heavy work load lag reduced by 90%
Drew Blood: Yes, it's nice n smooth here
Bloom Peters: i took timing very seriously
Koshari Mahana: Very very nice
Bloom Peters: now lets have some fun!
Jojo Apple: Yayyyy!!
Dorena Bree: so neat, love it
Bloom Peters: You can download the first viewer here Expect some bugs of course..
Bloom Peters: i am still not 100% sure what works on another machine so please do report things that don't work. This viewer I plan to keep working and supported for the foreseeable future ...but of course, I am a zero support type Ah HAHAHA... :O
Jojo Apple: applllauuuusseeee!!!
Alex Salamander: very nice
Koshari Mahana: That is so cool!
Thirza Ember: can you tell us more about sourcing MIDI tracks to use with this?
Bloom Peters: Ah yes i get all my midi files mostly though a paid site called Song Galaxy because their MIDI files are professionally done unlike the many free ones out there so i generally pay up to 10 dollars per midi file... many free ones are fine of course, not all free are bad, I made it as simple as opening a midi file and clicking play, I can make a folder with all my MIIDs online.
Thirza Ember: that would be useful, because my first reaction was, how can i convert songs to MIDI? or where can I get MIDI tunes, so if there are some good places you know of, that helps.
Ayla Alvarez: What are MIDI Tracks? Definition: A lane inside your recording software that stores and plays back MIDI data.
Bloom Peters: there is one feature I forgot to explain, as I said, Crescent Melody supports Regular music as well, you can load a mp3 audio and a midi and play them together to sync
Ayla Alvarez: You can convert songs to MIDI using online AI transcribers or download pre-made MIDI files from dedicated online archives.
Bloom Peters: Me and Ayla going to get along lol
Bloom Peters: When you first load the Crescent Melody tag it will present a terms of service agreement...  no data collection! it is a what u can and cant do etc.. thats it, no consenting your soul.  The viewer comes with a Midi soundfont STOCK to get started its not great but it gets you started.
Petlove Petshop: Thank you BLOOM!
Taarna.Welles: Bloom, do you have a channel on Discord? Would be nice and appreciated.
Bloom Peters: i did but something killed it! i got to remake it
Thirza Ember: Bloom often posts on the HG Safari server, she has her own channel there, and again it has loads of her work  in video form posted loads to catch up on, if you haven't checked it out
Bloom Peters: i will be releasing this OAR and another OAR with 145 instruments premade with in world sounds too...  12 thousand samples
Koshari Mahana: Wow so much work!
Neo Cortex: Do you see any chance to combine your technology with a Linux viewer?
Bloom Peters: Neo yes I could actually
Neo Cortex: ...we need to talk... ;)
Bloom Peters: Crescent Melody is going to be a Commercial product of mine... while its 100% free to use
James Atlloud: oh!
Bloom Peters: it cannot be sold nor can you make money from it EXCEPT from your own events, of course. You can create things for crescent and share it, hold events, use it 100% free but you can't for example sell the instruments you make for crescent, they must be free, but for your event of course u can make money from that. Crescent will be a product of mine in SL, but for opensim i provide the OAR... the UI has my email you can click on to send me a email.
Farstar Enoch: cool, a ton of work
Neo Cortex: My head is spinning imagining how many hours you must have put into this!  counting the SL time that went into developing the foundation too
Bloom Peters: Once again, here is the link to the Viewer if you didn't see it. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ppc8up4aEpx8df8DZUPbRITjF1m_4WCg/view?usp=sharing
Bloom Peters: OAR With 145+ Instruments used for crescent melody https://drive.google.com/file/d/12JoGEDPOY2KFuzc7al_8Vq1sl1PaoYdy/view?usp=sharing
Bloom Peters: it is a complete midi sound sample set so ALL midi in the world will work for it without a single missing instrument. I had to program a little software to take over my mouse and sample every midi note in FL Studio ... it moves mouse clicks a note, saves the sample,
Bloom Peters: took forever
Koshari Mahana: Nice!
James Atlloud: wild way to get sounds from FLstudio
Farstar Enoch: clap clap
Ayla Alvarez: ~~~ APPLAUSE APPLAUSE ~~~
Bloom Peters: this the last time this region will be used, a new region is being made for a new show in the future... this sim here will be released too...  imagine a city where all the windows light up in time with the music!
Nara Nook: Thank you for this, it has given me so many ideas
Thirza Ember: I'm going to miss those cats dancing though
Bloom Peters: the cats are staying in the new sim...  they are too iconic
Koshari Mahana: Phew!
Star Ravenhurst: Indeed they are
Bloom Peters: and of course id love to see what you guys and gals do with it! and of course ask me for advice, I don't mind. MIDI has channels 1 through 128 ish drums are 1 through 9, so for example if you type in /1 20 you will hear a sound here haha when silent channel 10 is piano... Example /10 1 is note 1 on the FAR left of the piano, and /10 88 the highest
Koshari Mahana: It's amazing that you figured all of this out. OpenSim thanks you for that.
Taarna Welles: Hey everyone, I have to get up early again tomorrow so I'm heading offline. Thanks so much for this first safari tour! CU next week!
Bloom Peters: yes np ty for coming! So here is a big thing...  Crescent melody can also play real music and make the instruments dance too BUT!!!   there is one big limitation right now  VIVOX does not support passthrough for music so i had to use line in... for now! I will make a bridge eventually
Alya dancin'
Bloom Peters: look at Ayla lmao
Ayla Alvarez: giggles experimenting w/a new dance hud
Thirza Ember: As usual there will be a blog post about today's visit, and it will include a transcript of what Bloom has told us today, so if you're feeling like it was a lot of info, you'll be able to reread there
Bloom Peters: it is a lot  of info!
Neo.Cortex: Do you have any plans to move to web audio now that Vivox is owned by Unity and no longer supporting SL?
Bloom Peters: hahah ya, for SL it now uses the new WEB thing - already implemented the new voice  from sl
Neo Cortex: Great!
Drew Blood: I wanna play the game this music is put into
Bloom Peters: this is Animusic - More Bells And Whistles
Koshari Mahana: Love it.
James Atlloud: Does the voice audio channel have the same fidelity as parcel / media audio?
Bloom Peters: that idk , only thing i did was make the mic passthrough, but it does sound good haha, i am trying to crash the Shoutcast business... Joking! I want to add parcel media streaming from crescent too.
Drew Blood: I don't  mind that idea :)
James Atlloud: oh yes, talk about latency/lag!  So many performers are so many seconds behind what the audience hears :(
Forest Azure: crash the shoutcast you mean, drew?
Drew Blood: yes
Forest Azure: ok, i need to kill you then :)  sorry Star
Drew Blood: LOL
Bloom Peters: ... its a joke but i do want to add mp3 player streaming to the sim parcel media  so DJ can stream from their mp3 player to the sim
James Atlloud: ty Bloom.  Parcel / media audio would also be in stereo.  Voice is stereo, but it's used for audio positioning.
Bloom Peters: yes it is
Alex  Salamander: Thanks for all, i say good bye and good night
Neo Cortex: Thank you for the great presentation!
Koshari Mahana: Thank you Bloom, Truly amazing things you have going on.
Bloom Peters: Ohhhh! ty for coming too!
Bloom Peters: OAR:    https://drive.google.com/file/d/12JoGEDPOY2KFuzc7al_8Vq1sl1PaoYdy/view?usp=sharing
Petlove Petshop: really amazing & awesome Bloom  ty!
Thirza Ember: I want to thank Bloom but also the Winxtropian family who support her every day in her endeavors, Boujee and Farstar and Yumyum... by being here and showing your support, you really make a difference!
Farstar Enoch: yerrr we love when Saffari Visits
Koshari Mahana: Thanks!
Bloom Peters: Viewer: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ppc8up4aEpx8df8DZUPbRITjF1m_4WCg/view?usp=drive_link
Thirza Ember: thanks for having us  and thanks for that link!
James Atlloud: cool
Farstar Enoch: Thanks everyone hope to see all soon. Stay frosty
Forest Azure: ty Bloom! and so glad to see you again,
Thirza Ember: This has been a very typical Safari with crashes, and art and tech and so many lovely friends... what a great way to come back to opensim gridjumping
