If you read the previous article about the 5th anniversary of Belze and Chubby, there's another notable anniversary this weekend in the German speaking community of opensim. Over on Vela Dreams grid, Cleopata and Myrena Rajal are marking their 4 years together.

The Safari will be visiting another highlight on the grid, Vela Atlantis, this coming Wednesday, and checking out the classically constructed buildings that take you to another time...The Greek philosopher Plato 'invented' Atlantis - it's mentioned in his work called the dialogue of Critias. Though many choose to think he's describing an actual place, the original text is way more interesting if you look at it from the perspective of the lesson it teaches us about civilized behavior.
The Atlanteans have everything. Protection from the god Poseidon, plenty of resources, a just legal system, a safe place to live, and every advantage. But over time, they stop appreciating their greatest possession, virtue. It got diluted, corrupted. They became power hungry, started fighting with each other, and squandered the contented life they had enjoyed for generations. Even the gods noticed how nasty they had become, and Zeus decided to step in... at that point Plato's text comes to an unexpected end - the rest of the story is lost, and a million dream-Atlantis cities have been born.
That's the neat thing about Opensim. Places that stir memories, inform us and open doors to new information, and remind us of the importance of appreciating what we have. Including freebies! (I got a swordfish from this Marktplatz on Atlantis).
