Dorena Forever !

Our two destinations this week took us to places of great historical significance in the history of opensim, now reaching well into its second decade. Grids and projects, residents and regions have all come and gone over these many years, and the virtual is often dismissed as temporary - a fad, a transient pastime. But our stops on this Safari prove that the situation is to a large extent otherwise. Through the vicissitudes of  code and server reliability, in the face of drama and data loss, some regions and their residents have endured and flourished.
This week we celebrated with Dorena her birthday which is just a week or so separated from the 'birthday' of the Germán grid that bears her name. Anachron Young invited us to a party on a spot full of meaning for the grid -the original sim where the whole adventure began!.
Dorena1 Verne: nice to see you:-)
Loru Destiny: Hello welcome Safarians :-)
James Atlloud: 32 avatars!  wow
Dorena1 Verne: I am soooo happy.-)
Thirza Ember: Dorena we love you lol!
Forest Azure: is there cake? with candles?
Loru Destiny: ***LOOL*** Forest
Anachron Young: no cake yet - did you bring one ?
Forest Azure: maybe i should bake one? a big one
Dorena1 Verne: I Like it,..i love you all:-))
Beth Ghostraven: Happy Birthday!
Nebby Newman: Happy Birthday, Dorena!!
Dorena1 Verne: Thank youuuuu:-))))))))
Anachron Young: Dorenas World (SIM) was the first SIM of Dorenas-World (Grid) when it came online 13 years ago. It had been the Grid Landing originally, but we changed that to "Landing" a couple of years before due to technical problems, which have long since been resolved, but we didn't switch back again.
Thirza Ember: the birthday of Dorenas world grid is just a few days before your birthday, that's good timing
Dorena1 Verne: Dorenas world since over 13 years:-)
Loru Destiny: it's one of the oldst german grids
Anachron Young: after Metro died we ARE the oldest german grid
Nara Nook: Glad you are still here.
Star Ravenhurst: Long Live Dorena's World!!
There are 61 regions on Dorenas World, the greater part of it is contiguous, meaning that you can walk, drive or ride from sim to sim, further enhancing the general sensation of being a real place. The grid has some fantastic shops (rigorously money-free) like those of  Jupiter Rowland and renowned creator Klarabella Karamell who has been here forever (check out this blog post from 2011 if you don't believe it). There's also plenty of landscape to enjoy, and artists and themed regions - a really good Beatles sim for example, and a brilliant reconstruction of Lincoln Cathedral are just two examples that spring to mind immediately, but there are many, many more, all worth your time and attention.
Nebby Newman: Can I look at other regions, okay?  : D looks fun!
Dorena1 Verne: yes of course.-)
Thirza Ember: this feels so much like a real place, I love it
Tosha Tyran: yes, true
Have you heard of Gridtalk.de, a forum aimed at German-speaking Opensim users? Here news, views, problems, suggestions, and solutions can be shared, bringing the community together and up to date with the latest happenings.
Thirza Ember: how old is the Grid Talk concept?
Dorena1 Verne: 13 years too, in summer. Dorenas world is 6 month older
Anachron Young: GridTalk is by Bogus Curry, but came into being nearly simultaneously with Dorenas World
The sun set and rose again during our dance on this historic region. I'm still struggling with the frankly horrible new version of Firestorm, shorn of any interesting weather effects., so here is a pinkish dawn.
Anachron Young: We still run that old 4-Hour per virtual day cycle here ... so sunrise happens 6 times a day ;-D

May the sun never truly set on this wonderful grid. Many Happy returns to you all!
