Another year of HG Safari trips is right around the corner, beginning in just six days from now on January 1 at the usual time, 12.00 Pacific time, or SLT - what time is that where you live? Answers in the comments!
The early spring season of HG Safari trips will last 10 weeks, as usual, so our final trip will be on March 5. Then after a break for a few weeks the fun starts again! As usual, each week the aim is to visit two interesting places on two different grids, accompanied by the person who knows all about the build, so that they can tell us their stories and answer out many curious questions. Where are we going? Here are a few hints - do you recognize any of these destinations?
Each week is different. Sometimes we'll have a mini theme, for example it might be two very good Japanese or two sci-fantasy builds, to compare and contrast for both their use and their style.
Some weeks the two destinations will be wildly divergent. Sometimes we're celebrating a special day with a grid, at other times it's just a random visit.
Hyper realistic, delightfully cartoon, moody or cute, futuristic or ancient in style, we love them all!
There is so much variety, so many interesting grids and regions in Opensim, that filling the twenty slots in our schedule is always a challenge, but also a pleasure to try to fit in a mixture of famous venues, exciting new places, and the occasional old favorite.
Better knowing our neighbors is a great way to come to appreciate their point of view, our shared struggles and triumphs, and the cultural history of virtual worlds that day by day we're all building together.
Would you like to be part of the second season, from April to June? Why not take a look at this page to see how the trips work.
Our destinations are never given out too far in advance, as changes sometimes have to be made last minute as real life and Opensim have been known to play tricks on us all!
The idea is that you come along to the Clubhouse a little bit before our Go time, 12 noon SLT, and then you can meet your fellow travellers, grab the Landmarks and a very short notecard explaining where we're going. Like a dinner party, it makes life easier if the guests show up at the agreed time, not earlier! It's also really handy to befriend your fellow Safari goers, so that if you get a bit lost you can ask for a tp and so catch up with the group.
Of course, the day and time we go on Safari isn't convenient for all, but luckily we often have Lifted Pixel with us, livestreaming the even, and of course, you'll see a little review of the trips here on this blog. The LMs for each week remain available for a few days afterwards at the clubhouse, so there are lots of ways to participate.
Hope to see you there!
