Vela dreams grid just turned eight years old last weekend, in opensim grid terms, that's a pretty venerable age.
This small grid, run from home (the ddns in the name gives that away) is the creation of Cleopata and Myrena Rajal, and they celebrated with friends with a mixed event, starting with a fashion show, in collaboration with Loru Destiny.

Like a lot of us, Cleopata got her first taste for virtual building while in Second Life, arriving there back in 2008. Coming to Opensim with so many financial advantages was a no brainer for her. It's amazing when you stop and think of all the things you're not paying for, beginning with free uploads, we're really able to accomplish so much without feeling stifled by monetary concerns.
Among the regions comprising Vela dreams is this fun one, Atlantis Stadt, where you can dream of lost civilizations, while coming across nice little freebies on your travels. Nothing says Opensim like exploring and shopping, don't you agree?
Cleopatra Rajal: Opensim is good for us because we like to build so much and we need a lot of sims, I have my own server so I'm independent. I find it very easy, I couldn't pay for as many sims as we have in SL.
Putri Solo, in a chic black crinoline, provided the live singing for the gathering in the ballroom, following the fashion show. It's a big marble-and-glass old school prim building, something of a Cinderella style setting, very appropriate for this fairytale of a grid.
It's always interesting to learn why people choose to build a grid of their own, rather than take land on a larger grid; its both a social and a technical choice.

Congratulations on 8 years.
