Tierra de Marpil

"Abre el ojo y desparrama la vista"
Love it when we end up on yet another new sim where paying attention pays off, and you get the full benefit out of all there is to see and learn.
That was the case at our second destination this week, as the new season of Safari began with an exciting visit to Cloe Kegel and Vins Watanabe's grid, Astralia.  We were guests of Marpil Grafenwalder who exploded onto the Opensim scene less than two years ago. She has been a positive torrent of creativity ever since. The region is Tierra de Volcanes, 'land of the volcanoes' and of course, the full HG address is at the end of the post.
Marpil Grafenwalder
Marpil's region Tierra de Volcanes is famed for its wonderful Mall up in the sky, but our visit this time was aimed at learning more about her homeland, the Canary Islands
The build at sea level is beautifully put together to combine art, entertainment, and RL information and we arrived in the colorful, highly detailed plaza.
Arriving on Tierra de Volcanes
Marpil Grafenwalder: Hello everyone, and welcome to “Tierra de Volcanes".Tierra de Volcanes was born as an inspiration from the Canary Islands
lifted pixel: hello thanks for having us!
Tina Bey: hola
Koshari Mahana: Thanks for having us :)
Lavia LLavine: Volcanoes are most interesting. They are both creative and destructive. Life giving and life taking.
Marpil Grafenwalder [es→en]: Question - do I write in Spanish? or English is ok everyone?
Tina Bey: español
Thirza Ember: We all know some English but both is ok too
Marpil Grafenwalder [es→en]: perfect - Spanish and translator.. The Canary Islands are an archipelago made up of seven main islands and several islets that were formed thanks to volcanic activity that has taken place for millions of years.
Marpil Grafenwalder:  The Canary Islands are located in the Atlantic Ocean, very close to the southern coasts of Morocco and the northern coasts of Western Sahara. However, they are an autonomous community of Spain, therefore they belong to the European Union.
The whole build includes these informative RL photos
Luna Lunaria: interesting
Marpil Grafenwalder:  Here we are in a representation of the Island of Tenerife, specifically in Santa Cruz capital with its typical traditional houses, colorful with their balconies full of plants, and a very festive decoration recalling what the Carnival of Tenerife is.
Marpil Grafenwalder [es→en]: here are some photos of the houses in rl. You can see that I have tried to recreate them as best as possible.
Tosha Tyran: buen lavoro, Marpil!
Marpil Grafenwalder: gracias gracias hahaha
Tina Bey: buenisimo Marpil
Koshari Mahana: It's really cute, nice build! No lag here at all
Marpil Grafenwalder [es→en]: this is typical of the city, its cafes, and dance areas
Forest Azure: /me steals an orange from a tree
Star Ravenhurst: This is impressive. This feels like we are in another place in time.
Tosha Tyran: hehe, ahora estamos casi como en RL .... muchos turistas
Taarna Welles: :D
Marpil Grafenwalder [es→en]: The Carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife is one of the oldest festivals, with more history and character in Spain and the world. It is considered the second most popular and internationally known carnival, after those held in Rio de Janeiro.
Tina Bey: que bello
Lavia LLavine: Well you've captured it beautifully Mapril
This was my fault, I was trying to do a cam-and-tp but I clicked on the dance floor... it only took about 10 seconds for everyone else to join in.
Marpil Grafenwalder: o yes you can dance here hahhaha
Yara Eild: I also love the dance floor among us. With the butterfly entrance
Luna Lunaria: This is the kind of place that's fun to dance in...  Love it!
Tosha Tyran: me encantan las bellas estructuras... realmente bonitas
Thirza Ember: agree, there is so much character here it is like a real place
Forest Azure: /me sings a spanish song
Marpil Grafenwalder [es→en]: I am new to this wonderful world of opensim
Thirza Ember: wow you did all this work in less than 2 years  with the Mall and everything?
Marpil Grafenwalder [es→en]: ahahahah yes I am a work machine
Tosha Tyran: se nota!
Star Ravenhurst: That is even more impressive because the mall is one of the best in OS and I know it was a lot of work
Luna Lunaria: Do you hold music events here Marpil?
Thirza Ember: Luna, yes, Marpil does many events, check out her posts on Facebook, OSW, all the usual places... let's follow Marpil, she show us more things
Marpil Grafenwalder [es→en]: hahahh I'm going to lose them... everyone goes shopping
But no worries, Safary folk stick together, you can go shopping any time, you don't always have the owner of the sim on hand to give you a gided tour, and we weren't going to miss out on her insights!
Tosha Tyran: I love the walls
Marpil Grafenwalder: ok let's continue with the volcanoes... How many volcanoes are there in the Canary Islands?
Thirza Ember: i thought just one
Lavia LLavine: Aren't all of the Islands sitting on volcanoes?
Forest Azure: /me counts quickly
Tina Bey: que impresionante..verlo asi!!  tan cerca
Marpil Grafenwalder [es→en]: Yes, all the islands are volcanic, all have one or more volcanoes. You can find around 33 volcanoes spread across the different islands, of which five are currently active:
Lavia LLavine: The Canary Islands are a huge tourist attraction aren't they? Like Hawaii
Marpil Grafenwalder: in total 33 volcanoes
Taarna Welles: wow!
Marpil Grafenwalder [es→en]: Yes but only 5 are active, here you can see their photos, if you click on the images in edit you will be able to see data about each of them
Thirza Ember: this is what i love about opensim. beauty, fun, and you learn something
Luna Lunaria: Ikr?
Marpil Grafenwalder [es→en]: in Tenerife we have the largest volcano in all of Spain El Teide – Tenerife  Altura: 3718 metros the jewel of volcanic activity in all the Canary Islands, is also considered the highest peak in Spain.
lifted pixel: i set it to night, it looks super cool :3... but should we be concerned about the active volcano?
James atLLOUD: good tip yes!
Marpil Grafenwalder [es→en]: 2021 was the last eruption on the island of La Palma, you can see behind my back the representation of the island La Palma with its volcano exploding, there were 85 days of volcanic activity, it was sad, many families lost everything, luckily no one died because everything was monitored
Francisco Koolhoven: that's great to hear
Lavia LLavine: Yes both a beautiful and fearful thing.
Marpil Grafenwalder [es→en]: that's how it is
Marpil Grafenwalder [es→en]: Let's take a dip at the most famous beach in Tenerife
Luna Lunaria: Lifted you're gonna electrocute everyone :-D
lifted pixel: lol be careful
Luna Lunaria: Now I gotta wash my hair
lifted pixel: i was going to say, isn't salt water good for hair? or bad? who knows
Thirza Ember: Everyone's got a little bit of lag, so let me just mention this... for anyone interested, Marpil changed the usual landing point of this sim for our event today. Normally you arrive at a place with a teleport that will take you to the mall in the sky. However, since we always have bad lag when we visit a mall, we avoided it today. Marpil is always coming up with new creations that she advertises on opensimworld, so keep an eye out there for information.
Marpil Grafenwalder: ok  we are now in the representation of Las Teresitas beach, one of the most famous in Tenerife, is a beach transformed in the 1970s on a pre-existing one of black volcanic sand, it was filled with sand brought from the Sahara Desert, which is why its color is spectacular... they imagine to bring sand from the desert
Koshari Mahana: You did a fantastic job here Marpil
Marpil Grafenwalder
Luna Lunaria: I like the beach bar. Reminds me of Florida
Marpil Grafenwalder [es→en]: Yes, the bar is a favorite corner of mine
Star. Ravenhurst: The beech sand looks realistic. Not easy to do
lifted pixel: the little bar area is cute :3
Marpil Grafenwalder [es→en]: something very nice here. A wonderful characteristic of this beach is that it has been chosen by the Angelsharks as a breeding place, since it is an endangered species.
Marpil Grafenwalder [es→en]: ok let's go search to see the angels. Mothers give birth throughout the year and leave their babies unattended under the protection of the waters of our beach, which provides them with the necessary food to survive their first months of life. angelsharks are pelagic sharks. The fry of these harmless sharks that rest on our beach are no bigger than a hand. Does anyone see any?... look at the sand under your feet
Angelic Kisses: oh wow...there's one
Lavia LLavine: I think I found one they are like a blend of a shark, starfish and stingray, or a really really flat catfish
Angelic Kisses: love that texture...it moves swimmingly
Marpil Grafenwalder [es→en]: there are many, you just have to know how to see them
Luna Lunaria: Hi fishes
Angelic Kisses: found one asleep...should I awaken it?
Thirza Ember: Jim stepped on the shark I hope we do not have to pay a fine
Marpil Grafenwalder [es→en]: many attacks occur like this... why do they step on them. They are protected,
Marpil Grafenwalder [es→en]:The entire coast of these islands is a sanctuary, here we can also see the blue whale, the largest animal on the planet, has been sighted;
Luna Lunaria: wow I can breathe underwater
James atLLOUD: The whales are so peaceful.  Love them.
Marpil Grafenwalder [es→en]: The presence of this species that is so difficult to spot, very rare and threatened, is further proof of the need to protect this area of global importance for cetaceans. Currently, there is a fight to have this area declared a Marine Sanctuary.
lifted pixel: haha careful!
Thirza Ember: between Jim stepping on fish and Lifted electrocuting everyone   we are not very ecological
Luna Lunaria: the kites are cool :-)
Tina Bey: me encanta esta Region!!
Marpil Grafenwalder [es→en]: welcome to Fuerteventura... what we see is the international kite festival The International Kite Festival has been held in Corralejo since 1987. During four days, professional and amateur kite flyers from all over the world will gather on the golden beaches of the Corralejo Dunes.
Tina.Bey: muy bellas todas las cometas!!
Angelic Kisses: that must be a spectacular sight to behold.
Star.Ravenhurst: I bet that is a lot of fun
Thirza Ember: it is a great idea to combine virtual with rl photos
Marpil Grafenwalder [es→en]: the perfect mix - beach sun and kites
Luna Lunaria: love the blue and white house
Angelic Kisses: me too
Thirza Ember: this is like going on vacation without all the trouble of taking a plane
Lavia LLavine: Very true Thirza
Marpil Grafenwalder [es→en]: hahaha and no sand in shoes
Dings Digital: what a wonderful place, so inspiring
lifted pixel: oh there's three volcanoes right behind the house even
Luna Lunaria: your own personal volcanoes
Koshari Mahana: This is so cute!
Marpil Grafenwalder [es→en]: There are many more islands to visit, each one with its special charm... but I don't want to abuse... can we manage to see one more ???
Luna Lunaria: Si!
Jim Bean: the wind makes trees get amazing shapes
Dings Digital: tranquil corner surrounded by the elements
Marpil Grafenwalder [es→en]: welcome to EL iron, this tiny island, it's called iron, and it has a very incredible feature. It is also known as the "Meridian Island".  The reason it is so called is because the Zero Meridian was not always at Greenwich.
James atLLOUD: the Meridian was here?
Marpil Grafenwalder: yes. For centuries the Zero Meridian was in El Hierro, more specifically in Punta de la Orchilla. Before the discovery of the American continent, when people were convinced that the earth was flat, the island of El Hierro was considered the westernmost point of the world. On October 13, 1884), at a conference held in Washington it was decided to move it to its current position (Greenwich).
James atLLOUD: wow I never knew! Maybe we can center Metric Time here!
Dings Digital: fascinating
Marpil Grafenwalder [es→en]: This island was the last one on the maps - then they were dragons and monsters
Jim Bean: (addendum: today some people again is convinced that the earth is flat... ^^)
Lavia LLavine: Go beyond this Island and fall off the edge of the earth
Marpil Grafenwalder [es→en]: even on many old maps, you will see this island as meridian 0
Taarna Welles: Interesting Marpil
Thirza Ember: wow Marpil you live in a magical place!
Marpil Grafenwalder [es→en]: yesss I love the Canary Islands!!!!  I hope the Canary Islands are as beautiful to you as they are to me.
El Hierro
Francisco Koolhoven: thank you Marpil
Angelic Kisses: this was a very interesting tour, Marpil. Thank you
Roffellos Kisses: its really lovely here Marpil ...can we come on vacation?
Marpil Grafenwalder: sisi, feel at home
Luna Lunaria: Now I have to visit Gracias Marpil :-)
Marpil Grafenwalder: gracias a ustedes
Kimm Starr: It really is beautiful
