Rain Eday Delight

It was raining when we arrived on Eday, one of the Orkney Islands, off the Northeast coast of Scotland. Luckly, it was only virtual rain, so nobody's hair got messed up. Better say up front, of course, it's not really pronounced 'e-day', but 'ai-dee'... luckily when everything is in text chat, nobody can see your accent! And inworld? well, the HG Address is, as always, at the end of the post. get scrolling!
To meet us, Samsara 'call me Sam' Timeless, the creator of this region and nine others, here on Groovyverse grid. We only got a glimpse of what's in store for visitors on this region - there are dozens of gems hidden in the hillside, so be sure to take a good long hike around the island, and drop in the comments any points of interest that you enjoyed.
Our host, Sam Timeless, far left
The region is so beautifully evocative of a gale-kissed outpost of humanity, battling with the elements and full of natural beauty, that you'll feel outdoorsy, no matter how you're dressed.
Roffellos Kisses: are we biking it ?
Samsara Timeless: Cool.. counts the bikes :)
Tosha Tyran: hahahaha, the first time in years I wear a real short skirt... and now I have to go on bike???
Samsara Timeless: ha ha ha well, they may crash the sim so you'll still be walking and decent :)
Star Ravenhurst: You look cute Tosha!
Samsara Timeless:  A bit of info before the walk.. or ride... I created Eday here for my daughter and her family who live on the RL island of Eday. which is a part  of the Orkney Isles group north of the Scottish mainland.   The population is around 120, 7 of who are my family. They built themselves a cabin overlooking Mill Bay, raised 5 happy children and provided the islands only server link to the mainland until recently.
Samsara Timeless: This Eday is a bit of a fanciful interpretation of the real thing of course. My daughter has pointed out that I have added far to many trees and the village seems to have doubled in size but the island is for walkers and ramblers and I have tried to convey the rugged rainy windswept feeling that these northern islands experience daily. just with an additional bit of tree shelter :)
Samsara Timeless: The one thing I cannot add though is the scent of Eday. The island is home to over 120 species of flora and one of the principal plants of the wild land is Bog Myrtle, a low growing bushy shrub that gives a wonderful subtle aroma to everywhere on the island so please try to imagine the scent in the air as you wander around.
Thirza Ember: we need Smellivision!
Tosha Tyran: yes, we do, Thirza
Samsara Timeless: You have arrived at Veness Harbour from the small ferry boat .The bikes are usually the easiest way of getting to the village but if the entire sim starts clanking it may be better to walk. There is a drop off point outside the police station if the bikes do behave themselves.
Samsara Timeless: On the way to the village there is a cross road where you may want to regroup and get your bearings, also noting the direction of the Coast Path  which you may care to explore after your visit to the village.
Frank Gresham: ooo Coast Path!
Angelic Kisses: what a wonderful description...sounds like a lovely place to live
Samsara Timeless: One warning though. Anyone that is allergic to bagpipes should NOT toggle music! It will just make your day miserable as well as wet and windy.
Angelic Kisses: lol
Francisco Koolhoven: lol
Roffellos Kisses: nothing wrong with a man in kilt blowing up an octopus
Yara Eild: :-))
Samsara Timeless: KK, that's all from me until you get to the village where I do have a bit more info to share.
Angelic Kisses: apologizing in advance for anyone I mow down
Tosha Tyran: gollyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy what fun, I am glad I didnt miss the ride
Angelic Kisses: hahahaha, we did pretty well
Francisco Koolhoven: lot of fun
Samsara Timeless: some crashes along the way :)
Tosha Tyran: and it is so pretty here
Samsara Timeless: Once you have explored the village you may like to wander around the lanes or perhaps see if you can find my daughters cabin. If you follow the signpost to Sealskerry Bay. by the fishmongers, go up the hill past the church and at the top take the left fork and Query is signed on the left just past that junction. There is a gap in the stone wall behind the cabin that shortcuts you back up to just below the top gate....  If lost, just cam for the village church spire and cut across country.
Star Ravenhurst: These bikes are really nice. Easy to ride them
Samsara Timeless: hey roff you made it up the hill :)
Roffellos Kisses: yeah split my pants on this boneshaker
Samsara Timeless: lmao
Angelic Kisses: Sam, the attention to details is SPECTACULAR!!!!
Star Ravenhurst: the tectures are fabulous!
Samsara Timeless: Thank you and I do find them on google and modify them in Gimp yes
Star Ravenhurst: Building this village must have taken some time. It isn't easy to build on hills and curves and such as you have here. Do they drive cars in the village? The streets are very narrow
Star at the Post Office. No queue - nice!
Samsara Timeless: In this village no.. it was designed for the bikes but the rl island does have narrow roads with passing places
Roffellos Kisses: love the attention to detail Sam right down to the war memorial...great work
Yara Eild: Yes you can feel the wild landscape
Tosha Tyran: village is really small, few steps and you are outside, the landscape is wonderful
Thirza Ember: love all the detail in the shops
Tosha Tyran: oh, look! I found a huge smartphone!
Samsara Timeless: Ha ha ha ha ha
Tosha Tyran: it is red and ... omg, you can enter it
Star Ravenhurst: Hahah Tosha!
Thirza Ember: watch out for the blue ones... they are bigger on the inside
Thirza Ember: what part was the hardest to make here Sam?
Samsara Timeless: errr... really the village because to me building houses is sort of rather my least favorite thing. Although one of my regions is NYC which is entirely buildings
Mal Burns: Found Fingels Cave - I went there as a kid, but wasn't in Orkney (near Oban maybe?). Used to watch the slides show to Mendelson piece lol
Samsara Timeless: ah now then.. Fingals cave... time for some more Local Chat from me then ...
Tosha Tyran: yes please
Samsara Timeless: After the village it's a short walk back to the signpost for the Coast Path..
There is a hidden cave along the Coast Path. Made famous by Felix Mendelssohn in his overture of the same name,  Fingals Cave has magically transported itself from it's RL location on Staffa to here. My daughter isnt too impressed about that either , I call it artistic license. According to legend Fingals cave was the last remaining arch of the bridge built from Ireland to Scotland by the giant  Fionn mac Cumhaill to do battle with his Scottish rival Benandonner. It can be accessed at low tide although only on calm days.  There are over 1200 shipwrecks known to be around the Orkney Isles the most famous on Eday being the grounding of the pirate John Gows ship the Revenge and his subsequent imprisonment in Carrick House until a ransom of £1,700 was paid. The bell of the Revenge is said to be buried somewhere in the grounds of Carrick House.
Roffellos Kisses: Safari to Carrick house would be worth a visit ....bring shovels!
Samsara Timeless: Good one Roff.. give me time to stash a bell somewhere cryptic though But do please yourselves where you go.. this island is for walkers and dreamers
Thirza Ember: Pirates and Giants - a fairytale sim
Mal Burns: giants causeway - nah, another story
Samsara Timeless: No Mal that's right, the basalt cliffs on Staffa correspond to the same basalt outcrop in Ireland
Thirza Ember: oh wow that's interesting... sort of geological brothers
Samsara Timeless: yes absolutely thirza... but the giant bit is a bit dodgy if you ask me :)
Mal Burns: perfect for walking - twisting windy paths so you lose direction, makes area seem much bigger
Thirza Ember: the road signs are beautifully authentic
Samsara Timeless: I actually found them somewhere on OS but Ive made my own identical ones since, still very typical of country lanes in the UK
Roffellos Kisses: then we show up a trail of coke cans and chips packets ..sighs
Samsara Timeless: A beachcomber seems to have made his camp here, he saves me the dogfish that the fishmonger wont buy
Star Ravenhurst: Interesting sound
Thirza Ember: sounds whovian, kinda nice
Tosha Tyran: a little scary in here
Samsara Timeless: I lifted it out of an exotic plant years ago it sort of works in here
Thirza Ember: i love the way we have gone from very real to totally supernatural
Star Ravenhurst: This is the best cave I have ever been in!
Alex Salamander: wonderful colors
Tosha Tyran: how did you make it, Samsara?
Osiris Kane: very very  nice
Samsara Timeless: Its just the textures really
Tosha Tyran: yes, but also a build behind the textures :)
Samsara Timeless
Samsara Timeless: most is the usual rock faces, cliffs etc just different textures than usual
Star Ravenhurst: Textures can make or break a build
Samsara Timeless: yes they can and messing with them is one of my favorite things I used to design stage sets in rl so I try to do the same with my builds, it 'reads' from a distance but get closer and you can see its a stage set
Thirza Ember: that explains why Sam's builds are so evocative of stories
Roff goes for a dip.
Angelic Kisses: Hi Roff...Whatcha doin' in the water?   You're going to catch a chill.
Samsara Timeless: the coast path then wanders along back to Veness Harbour where you landed
Francisco Koolhoven: Great work here Sam
Alex Salamander: It is a very beautiful region here
Star Ravenhurst: This was a fabulous visit Sam. I love all of it!!
Angelic Kisses: this is such a beautiful sim...thank you very much for the tour.
Yara Eild: I like everything here very very nice
Thirza Ember: plus all the info, it really brings the build to life
Clan Escotia
Clan Escotia: howdy folks... thought i would pop over- me bein a Scot and stuff
Thirza Ember: nice to see you Clan!
Tosha Tyran: very cool... gosh, say, can I come back some other day with more time and more awake?
Samsara Timeless: Yes! This is one of nine regions I have created here in GroovyVerse,  All 3x3 VAR's. and all very different. The rest can be visited by searching for Inisfree Central in OSW Regions.  I'm usually somewhere inworld so IM me if you visit
Tosha Tyran: wonderful, Samsara, also the invitation of come again - really beautiful
Roffellos Kisses: thanks Sam for the great tour and mountains of information!
