Safari Goes to The Good Place

It sounds so virtuous to say that you 'don't watch TV that much' and even if that's factually true and not a fib to make you look like a better person, there's a very good reason to quit the no-TV habit. It's called 'The Good Place', a comedy series that ran on NBC from 2016-2020 and later shown on other media platforms. Starring Ted Danson and Kristen Bell, it's the story of the afterlife, where people go either to 'the good place' or 'the bad place' depending on what score or rating their actions during life on earth has earned them - except there's a catch... well, go watch the show to find out about all that. Memorable characters, excellent acting, and a divinely funny script all make The Good Place a delight - but wait - there's more! Here in Opensim, there's a brilliant build by Bink Draconia that makes The Good Place an interactive game! The Safarians went to see what was up. 

The build is full of all the in-jokes, familiar characters, and catchlines of the show, which kind of makes a game in and of itself, to see how many you can spot, The build is on the German grid Pangea, famous for its art builds and the inspirational leadership of Marlon Wayne and Lampithaler Artis. What makes this build even more awesome is that Bink has made the whole thing bilingual, no mean feat!

Bink Draconia: "The Good Place" is a project that I already started 4 years ago - at that time still in my own grid "Kroatan" , but I finished last year in october. The region was inspired by the comedy Netflix show of the same name; those who know the show will meet a few familiar characters here and there.. For those who don't know the show, a short explanation about it. "The Good Place" is something like paradise, the place where good people get to spend their afterlife. So actually only the best of the best, the crème de la crème of good people... Congratulations, all of you who are here, you are among the best avatars in Opensim :)

Bink Draconia: Unluckily your avatars all are "dead" now :( But hey, you are in OpenSim's paradise... or so ^^ Besides "The Good Place" there is also "The Medium Place", a place for people who are neither good nor bad, but only one person has made it there so far: Mindy St. Claire.

Bink Draconia: The rest of humanity is in "The Bad Place": whether Walt Disney, Abraham Lincoln or Mother Teresa - no one has made it to "The Good Place". Although a lot of mischief was created here, the story has an important moral at its end. The "end", by the way, is found in Judge Hydrogen's area, which can only be reached via a teleporter. Whoever makes the right decision here will be teleported to the most beautiful place in OpenSim at the end - so don't solve this puzzle until you're wide enough to leave the region here again.

Crack a geode and leave your name 

Bink Draconia: Just by the way: If you visit "The Bad Place", there is a room with closed geodes that serve as a "guestbook". Click on them to open them and leave your name at the same time. I ll give you notecards with hunt game rules, so you can start playing while exploring the region

Bink Draconia: So now you can run off and explore this region or if you like to play, join the little Hunt Game. Either way, I have to warn you: just like in the show, there are some weird bugs here that nobody knows why they happen. Normally, there shouldn't be any giant frogs here, or free-ranging giraffes. And this big ugly hole in the middle of the road ... please don't fall into it - you'll probably never get out again :(

I did a lot of good and sacrificed my whole life to the Church and the poor... But then it turned out that my nun's habit was made by underage forced laborers in Malaysia, and I was banished to the < Bad Place> until end of time ....

There are lots of ways to get killed on the sim in the best and hilarious possible way, as seen here when Forest ended up under the wheels of one of the magnificent trains that take you from the Good place to the Median Place, and then on to The Bad Place at the end. The whole build is so beautifully put together that it is entirely flexible - you can play the game (Bink recommends coming in a small group so you can trade clues and hints with each other) which involves finding the NPCs and clicking to get clues and teleports - a bit like a treasure hunt, but the ultimate goal is finding your soulmate. The build looks extra spooky and atmospheric if you keep the light low, but on the other hand the quality of every building and all the landscaping is so beautiful it seems a shame to hide it in obscurity... hence most of these photos show a nice strong daylight.
