Free Radek-als

Vbinnia Radek is an Opensim legend. Her region Steam on OSGrid is one of those places that in the early days was a haven of fantastic assets when assets were like rare earths.

Arriving on the region can present a few small hiccups, you may end up at 128,128 which is the default landing on a regular sized sim, right in the middle. Steam was regular size but it's been improved into a VAR however opensim doesn't always remember that and will deposit you at the traditional landing spot which happens to be underwater. DOn't panic take a deep breath and cam up and out and you'll soon see the vast port and the industrial steampunk landscape behind it.
We met at an incongruously countrified spot on such a townie region, a little camp fire in a wood.
Vbinnia Radek: Hello every one :)
Forest Azure: hello vbinnia
Dorena Bree: Hi
Thirza Ember:  you have inspired so many of us, Vbinnia. This region - from forever - has been one of the best places in Opensim... i'm a fangirl LOL
Vbinnia Radek: chuckles! glad someone is... right now I need to inspire myself
Nara Nook: yes
eva Nowicka: Hello Vbinnia
Eva, Vbinnia, and Dings enjoy the camp fire comfort.
Dings Digital: Hello Vbinnia, wonderful place
George Equus: Used to go here often
Sven Ingersoll: if we had stuck to steam there would be no global warming
Cherry Manga: and thank you for the resources you kindly gave during all those years, many builders has your building supplies
George Equus: Second that!
Vbinnia Radek: you are very welcome
 Emporium 1 is at Steam/351/590/22
You can still find both otf Vbinnia's Emporiums on the region, they have forever been tricky to find in the maze of old brick buildings but under the photos I have added the coordinates so you can cheat a little, although just wandering around trying to find them will certainly put you into contact with lots of other glorious content.
Emporium 2 is at Steam/291/379/22
Thirza Ember: and just seeing you translate your ideas into a whole region has always sparked people's imaginations to build their own dreams
Dings Digital: yes
Vbinnia Radek: that is very kind, I always wanted to share what I could, it was how i originally started, using other peoples freebies... just wanted to return the favour
Cherry Manga: I hope you won't mind the comparison, but to me, you are a bit like arcadia asylum, quality optimized creative stuff maker
Dings Digital: this good old tradition is a treasure
Vbinnia Radek: arcadia was my inspiration
Cherry Manga: not surprised :)
Doctor Dave: After using others work for years, I'm hoping I can contribute something back to the grids.
Thirza Ember: I wondered when you converted this sim to a VAR and why you decided to do that
Vbinnia Radek: i wanted something a bit bigger, it just grew... mainly so I could fly things around it without crashing into things... I occasionally made things for people, if I could. I need to work on the server it may help with the laggyness but it hurts my brain these days
The soot-marked walls of Steam
Thirza Ember: so who here remembers this sim when they were new in opensim?  it was one of those few places with really interesting freebies
Nara Nook: I used to come here exploring all the time
Dings Digital: I was here several times over the years.
Forest Azure: this is my first time :)
Sven Ingersoll: I'm a virgin
Forest Azure: a steamvirgin?
Dings Digital: I have several objects from here on my sim. like the bridge you all were crossing when HG Safari was there
Doctor Dave: I used the Vbinnia pipe systems to make my winery.
Thirza Ember: oh now i want wine, dave. thanks for that
Doctor Dave: I do lead people to temptation.  I'm an Intoxicologist.
Nara Nook: those are in demand these days
Forest Azure: that is a bad thing for a doctor
Thirza Ember: well it guarantees him more patients
Tina Bey: Go to hell, Dave!
Forest Azure: wow, Tina!
Thirza Ember: ahaha Tina finally found her full english voice
Forest Azure: rofl!
Tina Bey: mala traduccion jejej ; al infierno divertido Dave!
We headed over to one of the vehicles in the port. At first glance it's hard to say if it would be more at home in the sky, under the sea, or running through some complicated series of rails, tubes, and tunnels, and that perhaps is its genius.
Dorena Bree: this is really pretty
Nara Nook: love that wood stove
Thirza Ember: fix up those sit scripts an you have yourself a sweet ride
Vbinnia Radek: Originally this ship flew,  but I couldn't get the scripts out
Dings Digital: this is something special...this has a human quality, it is so lovely
Thirza Ember: I'm sure in meshy people can make something pretty fancy but would it have this interior?
Thirza Ember: Vbinnia, how did you get started collecting and making the stuff on your sim? Did you begin in SL?
Vbinnia Radek: I bought it originally in SL. Managed to get it out before they closed all the loopholes
Thirza Ember: and then keeping the place going over so many years - that's a lot of work maintaining stuff
Vbinnia Radek: yes it gets a bit wearing at times
Forest Azure: /me hears something .. you mean regions need maintaining?
George Equus: I once started there too, when even getting dressed was a gamble.
Nara Nook: yeah and staying dressed ... though that is still an issue
Doctor Dave: Pick up an object and lose your shirt?  Been there.
Vbinnia Radek: LoL yes I remember it well
Vbinnia recalled the very early days of SL, before she arrived in Opensim
Vbinnia Radek: it was like the wild west when I was there, no holds barred, loved it... then i t got restrictive and the fun died
Thirza Ember: pretty much all of us here are opensim oldbies.. I wonder, what \advice would you give , if you could go back in a time machine and talk to your 'newbie' self?
Vbinnia Radek: that a good question
Nara Nook: don't put on an extra copy of hair if you lose yours, you will suddenly turn into cousin It
Vbinnia Radek: learn to script
Dorena Bree: lol Nara
Vbinnia Radek: I can do most things but that has always eluded me... if you can make things move and do stuff, the place gets interesting
Nara Nook: learning to manage your own server is really useful
Thirza Ember: always have some baked underwear available - that's my advice, for all those times our dress shows up late
Tina Bey: My skin is my clothes, so I don't have or cause lag
Vbinnia Radek: haha when I got the server up and running again, I had no clothes for some reason... took ates to get back to normal... now my login screen just shows my bare backside
Nara Nook: lol
Thirza Ember: and I wonder Vbinnia and the rest of you think - what's best, collaborating with other people in opensim, or working alone? what's your preference?
Doctor Dave: A little of both. When I started making the motel, I invited other artists to contribute. But ran into troubles when I needed to shift rooms around.
Nara Nook: both
Thirza Ember: dave's 'clown motel' is our destination next week, by the way
Dorena Bree: That sounds a little scary
Forest Azure: dave is no doctor?
Sven Ingersoll: PhD ... Doctor of Speedbuilds and Greedy
Thirza Ember: he's no clown either
Forest Azure: oh.. the world can be so disappointing sometimes!
Vbinnia Radek: slow builds is my style
Thirza Ember: Vbinnia I want to thank you so much for coming inworld and talking with us today we really admire the work you have done here, you're part of the opensim legend
Vbinnia Radek: I  apologise for the lag, I'll get that sorted in the near future
Forest Azure: lag? what lag? utter confusion, yes...but no lag
Thirza Ember: this has been an epic trip, I am so glad we made it
Forest Azure: /me smiles at vbinia
Vbinnia Radek: you are all wellcome
George Equus: Thank you!
Sven.Ingersoll: ty Vbinnia and ty everyone
eva Nowicka: thanks Vbinnia for the visit and thanks for all your great work
Vbinnia Radek: nice to see every one
Dorena Bree: Thanks Vbinnia.  I hope to come back again soon and explore more
