Hearts on Soul

Tosca sim has been described as the heart of Soul Grid, the German-speaking world belonging to Nasti Backerly who invited the Safari to come over and enjoy part of their Valentine's day celebration. This mediterranean-looking sim is full of flowers and romance, and is the perfect place to celebrate February 14 in a beautifully lit and very popular sky build.
Bu first, of course, the Safari crew (and that means you too, any time you are able to join us) convened on OSgrid at the Safari clubhouse.
lifted pixel: hello internet friends :3
snowbody Cortes: hello
Thirza Ember: internet friends are the best lol you can ghost them and they don't even mind
lifted pixel: honestly yeah, we understand RL happens and we'll catch up later :3
lifted pixel: are we voice chatting today? hah
Thirza Ember: we are trying out the Mumble thingy for the HG Safari group, since we are going to a german dance party for the first hour, rather than a guided tour, seemed like a good time to try it... our second host will not have it so we will need to use written chat with her
lifted pixel: i might join but i'm a little shy lol
Thirza Ember: that's ok, you don't have to talk lol... above the LM box there is another smaller box with a Mumble symbol on it... if you click that, it will take you to the page... if you already have mumble on your computer, it will automatically add you to our chatting group, otherwise, look on the page for the info about installing mumble, it's a very quick and small install
lifted pixel: you've convinced me lol just give me a few :]
Forest Azure: no more vivox?
Thirza Ember: well, there still is vivox Forest this is a possible future for opensim, it's open source and each grid can handle the servers, not one company controlling our voice... this is just a first experiment for us, like a much simpler thing than discord... just for inworld talk really
If you are curious to know if Jessica Pixel really is shy, and what the quality of Mumble audio is like, then why not take a look at the livestream done by lifter, which will allow you to hear us burbling o Mumble (or is that mumbling on Burble? you decide...)
Thirza Ember: there are already about 30 people on destination 1 so LOW DRAW DISTANCE AND BRACE FOR LAG ....
Forest Azure: /me opens her mouth... where's my braces?
Mal Burns: will we be mumbling there?
As we sat around the camp fire, there was much talk about over-long fingers, and strategies for dealing with the problem - hacking them off seemed a popular idea, and we also reviewed that classic question all prehensiles ask themselves- is a thumb a finger, or not?
Thirza Ember: if you have mumble and want to join the Mumble chat test, you can click on the box above the LM giver
Tosha Tyran: I brace with Forest - she has not so many fingers to get over bracing :D
Thirza Ember: ok time to go... see you on soul grid
The party was well under way when we arrived. There are an estimated 40+ grids in opensim where German is the predominant language. They vary in size from personal minigrids, more of a launching base for people to go out across the hypergrid to meet friends, to 'family' grids with a handful of builders and their partners, often folk who have known each other since the days of SL, to bigger grids like Soul.
Soul Grid is almost four years old, and it has from the start been a popular place in OpenSim for many Germans. I asked Nasti, how did the grid come into being?
Nasti Backerly: Before Soul I worked as a manager in another German grid, unfortunately there were disagreements, lies and intrigues at the time, so I said to myself, I have built this grid, then I can also build my own grid. This is how the Soul Grid was created.
The Lady in red, Nasti Backerly
Thirza Ember: How many residents on Soul Grid?
Nasti Backerly: If I had the registrations open, there would definitely be a lot of users. There are many requests. We are almost 100 users without any skeletons in the closet.
Thirza Ember:  Is it a lot of work to maintain the grid?
Nasti Backerly: I pay great attention to our users, they are all active and they all own their regions. We are a small, strong community where cohesion counts. It is of no use to us to have 1000 users in the statistics and only 50 of them are online.
Thirza Ember: What motivates you to do this?
Nasti Backerly: My residents motivate me; without them, everything wouldn't be as beautiful as itis. We also organize regular Real meetings.
Thirza Ember: Which of the following titles do you think best defines you - artist, builder, administrator or 'grid mother' and which of these jobs do you enjoy the most?
Nasti Backerly: I am the mother of the Soul Grid - that's what the residents affectionately call me, hence the title "Grid Mother". What brings me the most fun and joy is the people, but also shaping the regions.
And here we are arriving at the party!
Nasti Bakerly: Forest hallo :)
Marc Watcher: huhu Tosha
Aleksander Fairport: hi unadecal
Tailor Nova: ** T O S C A  ** Herzlich Willkommen  zur  VALENTINSTAG PARTY mit DJane NASTI.....Velkommen...Bienvenue...Welcome...Welkom...
Karin Becker: hallo Forest
Marlis Back: Huhu Neo
Star Ravenhurst: Hi Karin!
Thirza Ember: HAPPY VALENTINE'S TO EVERYONE!!!
Tosha Tyran: uiii, nicht gerade jugendfrei, hahaha, a lot of naked folks around
Cosa Wiefel: tosha das ändert sich gleich :-)
Cosa was right, within a few minutes, everything changed and the many naked dancers all gained splendid costumes, elegant dresses and sharp evening suits.
Forest Azure: if everybody has a npc partner... will that give even more lag?
Tosha Tyran: probably
Forest Azure: well, then i have to dance with you, tosha
Tosha Tyran: who would dare to refuse you, Forest?
Cleopata Rajal [de→en]: it's getting more and more crowded
Tosha Tyran: JUHUUUUU - a special welcome to my body!!!!!... and my head! I am so glad to see you!
Forest Azure: and your absolutely non messy hair
Tosha Tyran: exactly, well combed I travel!
Tosha's well combed hair - you be the judge
Karin Becker [de→en]: A big hello to everyone I haven't greeted yet. Have a wonderful Valentine's Day everyone
Thirza Ember: what a lovely party!
Karin Becker [de→en]: yes Thirza we like it romantic
Marc Watcher: Great DJ
Forest Azure: /me winks ... a safari romance?
Forest Azure: did anyone get a valentine card today?
Tosha Tyran: nope, nobody loves my but my dog and he can't write
Forest Azure: your dog does not send cards?
Thirza Ember: he can leave messages, however...
Forest Azure: like: walk me!
Tosha Tyran: his paws are to big for the keyboard... he crashed already three and now keyboard is out of bounds for him
Aleksander Fairport: great song, djane
Cleopata Rajal[de→en]: such an awesome song
Nasti Bakerly [de→en]: sing along quietly
The mix of tunes was toller (that's German for 'great'!) and we were made to feel very welcome by everyone. It's so nice to see how the German diaspora comes together for big parties like this, and of course the recent Carnival parade by Marlon Wayne on pangea grid last week, with floats from lots of different worlds all participating together. Everyone has their own home, but that doesn't stop them visiting one another.
Nasti Bakerly [de→en]: Great people there can only be a nice party
Tosha Tyran: has anyone ever found out, what exactly Meat Loaf would NOT do for love?
Barba Rhabarber: LOL: yes    - THAT
Neo  Nook: As far as I understood he say something about running away in the  beginning, so I guess that's it
Forest Azure: cut himself, i guess
Cosa Wiefel: he make all of love
Nara Nook: get married
Tosha Tyran: hahahaha, Nara
Forest Azure: well, as a meat loaf cutting is dangerous
Neo Nook: so he won't be screwing around
Nara Nook: This was a lovely party. I really enjoyed it.
Lavia Lavine: Great party! Be safe and stay awesome everyone.
Nasti Bakerly: Lavia happy Valentines to you
Tosha Tyran: a lovely party and a lovely place
Forest Azure: /me sends everybody here a giant card
Tosha Tyran: an overload of sweetness and hearts and THAT
Nasti Bakerly [de→en]: lovely peoples thy to all
Neo Nook: Great music selection! Danke für die Party!
Star Ravenhurst: Thank you. This may be the most romantic place in OS. Happy Valentines Day! Thanks for having us!
Karin Becker [de→en]: I wish all of you who are leaving now a wonderful evening and a good time
Tosha Tyran: ciaoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
James Atlloud: this is such a lovely place to dance - thank you so much!
Forest Azure: have fun ye all and ty for the party
Thirza Ember: thank you! the Safari group is moving on to destination 2 now... have a great continued party here!
Cleopata Rajal[de→en]: I wish everyone a good night and you Nasti have outdone yourself again, thank you very much for this
Final note: It's still a painful subject but this post wouldn't be complete without saying a word about Rudi Backerly who founded the grid together with Nasti. He was a genial, imaginative, fun-loving, person. He was enthusiastic about his own grid and the wider hyperversal community, madly in love with Nasti, and gone way too soon. His loss is felt not only on the grid but among all who knew him.

  1. I wasn't able to pay as close attention because of testing Mumble, but it was really great to be with so many people at once -the grid performed really well and everyone were so kind and funny! Thank you for the chance to visit.
