Getting Hie in Opensim

 October means beer, pumpkin spice cheesecake, leaf peeping, and gearing up for Halloween with outrageous sims and costumes. This year, add HIE to that list.  

HIE = Hypergrid International Expo
It is a weekend event from October 6 - 8 and it's part conference, part performance, part exposition. oh, and part party. It's not a music fest, although there will be music. It's not an art show, although there will be art. This is a conference and Expo where opensim residents - not 'hobbyists' or 'amateurs' but everyday users - Natives if you will - share their experiences of  life on the grids.

Maybe you know that for over a decade, each year, the English-language Opensim Community Conference allows folk from all over opensim to tell about their projects, art, inventions and work experience in opensim. 

The HIE is kind of the same, but focused on Opensim residents who are more at home in other languages - French and German, Italian and Spanish.

 Talks will be given in those languages, so people can express themselves - but don't worry - there will be subtitles so you'll get the main points of what is being said... think of it as a foreign film all about everyday folk who build and reside in Opensim.

Short and sweet, each language session will last about an hour and a half. That includes 2 talks and an art performance, expressing the highs and lows and laughs of living in a multilingual virtual space. 

The German and Italian sessions are on Saturday, and the French and Spanish sessions are on Sunday, starting at about 8am Pacific time, that's 18.00 h in Europe. The whole thing is over by about 11pm in Europe, that's 2 in the afternoon on the West Coast.

Then there's the Park,  surrounding the auditorium. 

The park is a walk through the woods, and you will find art, and all sorts of publicity booths, promoting grids and projects, lifestyles and galleries and single regions.

Visit any time to see the park, but MARK YOUR CALENDAR for the weekend of 7 and 8 October, so you won't miss this unique and fascinating event.
