The Wonders of Wellspring

Opensim has a long and storied past, and certain projects exemplify the resilience, ingenuity and strength of  the community on the vast archipelago of independent grids that it comprises. One of these is the Sendalonde Library, currently residing on Digiworldz.
This was the second destination on our Safari trip, and although we lost a few travelers due to the slight complication required to access the grid (you have to verify your UUID and some find that a bit complicated) the majority of us made it through. To welcome us, Alexina Proctor, Prax Maryjacz and Snoots Dwagon were on hand, and let us into the Sendalonde Theater which is an integrated part of the library building.
The Sendalonde Library is the gateway into 'Wellspring' - follow this link to learn more about that.
The Sendalonde is preparing for a grand reopening on Sunday October 16 at 1pm SLT , so you might say that our visit was a bit of a dress rehearsal for region performance! We saw a really nice slideshow down memory lane, ably put together by Alexina.
The group has hosted numerous steampunk, scifi, fantasy, and storytelling events, as well as parties, involving a stellar crew of creatives. Names that Safari regulars will instantly recognize include Cataplexia Numbers, Shandon Loring, Caledonia Skytower, and three very early adopters of our trips around Opensim - Soror Nishi, Miso Susanowa and the late and much missed Alizarin Goldflake. If you would like to experience the whole slideshow, it's still available (at least for a while) in the theater. Jump over there to see it!
Snoots Dwagon
Alexina Proctor: Welcome to the Sendalonde Community Library.  We are excited about giving you this tour. Once most are here, we will go to the Theater in the back of this building to watch a short slide show about the history of the Sendalonde Library.
Snoots Dwagon: welcomes!
Alexina Proctor:  Prax Maryjasz and I came to DigiWorldz from Kitely. Before that we were on InWorldz, where I started building a library in 2011. My masters is in librarian science, but I have not worked in a library. I taught techie topics in the graduate librarian program in the SJSU Information School for 5 years. I introduced graduate students to Second Life every semester. Prax was my unpaid assistant who helped those who had problems keeping up.
Alexina Proctor: The theater was rebuilt by Snoots Dwagon. There are 3 people on the Library Board of Directors at the moment. Prax, Snoots and me. We plan to invite people who have ideas and interest to join a Library Committee. We had to do considerable rebuilding when InWorldz shut down. We lost all our resources and books. Strand Starsider built this library for us and did what he could to save it in 28 linked blocks -- nearly 5000 prims in total.
ShalHeira Nailo: wow
Dabici Straulino: I was in In Worldz in 2011, it was sooo laggy
Beth Ghostraven: That was terrible the way it shut down so suddenly
Snoots Dwagon: Oh I remembers that Exhibit.  It was great
Dabici Straulino: Yadni ! ? The same who had the junkyard in SL ?
Snoots Dwagon: Yesh, da very same As soon as Elf Clan moved to Inworldz, Yadni followed.  He built some great stuff
Thirza Ember: there is so much opensim history here - you guys have a wealth of memories locked into Sendalonde
Snoots Dwagon: There really is
Alexina Proctor: I have many thousands of photos
Angelic Kisses: it's a beautiful place
Alexina Proctor: Yes, we have had some really top notch artists
Snoots Dwagon: Had some of the best of the best at the Delphi exhibits
Roffellos Kisses: you should put history events on the calendar Alex
Thirza Ember: are these photos from Digi or from  Inworldz ?
Snoots Dwagon: Inworldz
Thirza Ember: I wonder if inworldz would have survived if they had been HG friendly
Alexina Proctor: that's an idea
Jupiter Rowland: I'm afraid that wouldn't have made much of a difference. Only that people could have rescued their stuff more easily.
Snoots Dwagon: Was sad for everyone but... Alex and Prax rebuilt!  :D
Prax Maryjasz: Much loss, much grief
ShalHeira Nailo: it is very sad. I had just started playing, less than a year and had already rebuilt 3 times. I was so upset, as were everyone. The good thing is we all found a new home.
Star Ravenhurst: 4 Times on 4 grids I have had to rebuild. On the plus side... We are getting better at it
Snoots Dwagon: But you know, to be very honest... every time I rebuilt... the build got BETTER. :D
Performance by the Sendalonde Players
Alexina Proctor: Sendalonde Players is a group... We need a leader and a director
Star.Ravenhurst: I would come watch!!
Snoots Dwagon: I really enjoyed the Theater.  was fun,  Very well organized
Alexina Proctor: Trynatie Mason is our DJ at the GRAND OPENING
Snoots Dwagon: ~*~* HOOOOooooo *!*!
Dabici Straulino: I look forward for your first show
Alexina Proctor: Let's walk around the library now.
No surprises - James sat on the Dalek! Upholding a very old Safari tradition. Got to love it.
Thirza Ember: what are the books like? can we get them?
Snoots Dwagon: Thirza, you go to the Library, click a book, and various things happen depending on the book. You're given a text file, or presented a weblink, etc
Alexina Proctor: no, you can get links to the online version. We also have to deal with copyright.
James and the Giant Dalek
Alexina.Proctor: We have free stuff around from other creators. Feel free to take copies. This flip book to my right  is the Scifi Exhibition catalog. Upstairs is the Fantasy Exhibit catalog. Upstairs is also Legends, a song by Snoots Dwagon who writes music, plays musical  instruments and sings
Star Ravenhurst : This is awesome! I clicked on one of the books. I could spend time here
Jupiter Rowland: People, they've got Snow Crash here! The book that introduced the word Metaverse!
Star Ravenhurst: This was a lot of work. Just working on the books alone would have been a huge undertaking!
ShalHeira Nailo: this look awesome, well done
We moved over to the TP hub in a conservatory building, called a  “Terraport Center”, a few meters from the main building, so we could visit the beautiful Once Upon a Time region, built by Dawn Greymyst. It's a bit of LoTR, a bit of Hogwarts, and a castle that celebrates the most famous fairytale figures of the Western World - Aladdin, Cinderella etc.
Alexina Proctor: We have all 4 of our 4x4var regions on opensimworld. This terraport center is the best way to visit once you are here. To TP to our next destination, please click on the sign that has a yellow pointer.
The sim is beautifully laid out - there are lovely Hobbit houses, an impressive Isengard, and a charming Rivendell. You can seek out red Riding Hood, find the Gingerbread House... the list goes on,
Dawn Greymist
Alexina Proctor: Dawn is an amazing creator and designer
Roffellos Kisses: this is lovely
Alexina Proctor: Dawn thank you for being here today. Behind us is Guardian Cove, that you can visit if you come back on your own. Due to time limits we will not go inside most of the buildings. A notecard i will have SLURLs so that you can revisit and go inside. I will open the doors so  you can cam in. To the right is Frodo’s Hobbit House. I opened a door to peek in. On the left is the Alchemy Cave where potions are brewed. I suggest you cam in.
Alexina Proctor: The detail inside is fabulous. You will notice the signs along the way that have quotations from the Prologue of Through the Looking-Glass and What Alice Found There by Lewis Carrol. You can get a notecard with all of the sign quotations be clicking on any of the signs.
Alexina Proctor: This is the Storybook Castle with stands that have a name of a book on the pedestal and an item that represents the book on the top. Try to look at the item first and identify the book before reading the name of the book. :)
Snoots Dwagon: This is a fun interactive display. : )
Alexina Proctor: Look around and see if you can find the wolf and little red riding hood’s cape.
Jupiter Rowland: So many more references to famous stories around here...
Mal Burns: dragon in cave - i cammed too far lol
Jupiter Rowland: Found Bambi and Thumper.
Alexina Proctor: To your right is a dangerous cave in the Lonely Mountain. Cam in and see if you can identify who is in there.
Star Ravenhurst: Now that is awesome!
Alexina Proctor: Orthanc tower of Isengard is on our left. It is the home of... ?
Alexina Proctor: Beautiful atmosphere, Dawn
Snoots Dwagon: The fog is actually a mesh
Trynatie Mason: i like it very real looking
Angelic Kisses: i am really loving this tour!
Beth Ghostraven: me too, Angelic
Roffellos Kisses: so much more here than we knew
Alexina Proctor:  We need to return to near the landing point now. You can fly or walk back. We will be going up to the 2nd floor of Hogwarts Castle.
Wizardoz Chrome: Harry Potter?
Angelic Kisses: ooh this place is perfect for a Halloween party
Star Ravenhurst: Good photo op
Trynatie Mason: very well done here... nice lunch, hehehe
Tiaal Allen: bigger on the inside than outside
Mal Burns: hmm - nice to offer dinner but there may not be enough to go round
Star Ravenhurst: Passes the wine
Thirza Ember: true!
Alexina Proctor: Before we conclude the tour, there is a Wizard’s Wand on the table. It has green sparkles. Gift is from Dawn... Click on the wand - this will test your ability to zoom in and touch something small! When you click, you can choose the color of the sparkles and get a copy.
Dawn Greymyst: It's the Elder Wand from the stories
Sorting hat: Yet in wise old Ravenclaw if you’ve a ready mind. Where those of wit and learning will always find their kind.
Sorting hat: You might belong in Gryffindor, where dwell the brave at heart. Their daring, nerve and chivalry set Gryffindors apart.
Tiaal Allen: what an awesome build,  thank you
Thirza Ember: it really is a joy
Trynatie Mason: this was great :)
Beth Ghostraven: Thank you for the wonderful tour and notecard, Alexina!
Angelic Kisses: thank you so much for the wonderful tour.
