It sometimes happens on Safari that there's a last minute emergency. It's a tribute to the platform and its people that this is a very rare event, but it happened this week when just about twenty minutes before go time, our lovely host Monica Chanel discovered her internet wasn't working so she would not be able to join us to show us around her build, on Bloodmoon Grid, called Venice.
Thirza Ember: Here we are in VENICE on Bloodmoon grid
SoA BAD: Don't forget to give me the 10 EURO entrance fee
Star Ravenhurst: Loaded fast for me too
Dings Digital: ooo nice, that is where the good books are
Thirza Ember: Sadly just a few moments ago, our host Monica discovered she could not get inworld, she has problems with her internet, she is very sad about that
Lavia Lavine: Awww that stinks, I would be pretty upset too
Thirza Ember: but we can take a bit of a tour in company with Pierre here Pierre is co owner of the grid, so he can tell us a little bit about Bloodmoon grid as we walk around
Lavia Lavine: The internet is unpredictable
Star Ravenhurst: It is too bad she can't make it. Things can go wonky in a heartbeat
Thirza Ember: Monica's family in RL is from the Venice area, so this city means a lot to her
Star Ravenhurst: No doubt
Lavia Lavine: It's a piece of home for her.
Thirza Ember: as you can see she has put in many of the main attractions, like the Lion statue, which is actually Chinese, did you know that?
Dings Digital: looks fantastic
Thirza Ember: the vaporetto rides are fun because the boats go very fast
Dings Digital: do they have a bus?
Thirza Ember: yes but the seats are wet
Lavia Lavine: oh no
James Atlloud: whoa, just saw the big cruise ship!
Thirza Ember: of course, Venice is famous for being a big venue for carnival, so we can walk through the decorations if you want, straight down the red carpet!
Thirza Ember: we are standing close to the Campanile here... this huge tower stands on the site of much more ancient towers going back a thousand years, this present one was actually rebuilt in the early 1900s because the one from the renaissance times collapsed... it took 10 years to rebuild, mostly because the foundations here are a bit problematic
James Atlloud: foundations are somewhat, damp, I imagine.
Lavia Lavine: I saw somewhere in a documentary that it's built on hundreds of wooden beams or trees that are under the water
Thirza Ember: Monica has made the tower a bit wider than the original so it is easier to enter
Dings Digital: this thing has enormous stairs inside, awesome
Thirza Ember: Pierre can you tell us something about the origins of the grid?
![]() |
| Pierre Segrov accompanied us around the region |
Pierre Segrov: BloodMoon grid independently hosts the vampire themed game BloodMoon game... however the first of the grids that Vlad proposed was already on this theme: Carpathes Grid
If you don't remember that grid, here is a blog post about Les Carpathes from 2012 wow that's a long long time ago!
Thirza Ember: are you a vampire too Pierre?
Pierre Segrov: I play vampire in the game, yes
James Atlloud: Vampires in Venice? there's gotta be a book...
eva Nowicka: a chapter of Dr Who :)
Thirza Ember: shall we go over the Rialto bridge. You can tell she's from here, it looks so authentic
James Atlloud: Hey, I came to the bridge to shop!!
Dings Digital: cancel webshops, just go to Venice
Thirza Ember: there are actually 400 bridges in Venice
Star Ravenhurst: That is a LOT!!
Kimm Starr: this is a sweet build
Star Ravenhurst: Indeed it is Kimm.
Koshari Mahana: Nice to see you!
Thirza Ember:...and 400 gondolas, but only 50k inhabitants... imagine living here... only 50k people live here but 30 million people visit annually... would you want to live here?
Pierre Segrov: Ca c'est plus à Paris
James Atlloud: on the bridge?
Kimm Starr: No, but I wouldn't mind visiting
Star Ravenhurst: I visited Venice as a child. It was a amazing!
Thirza Ember: hmm living on a bridge or under a bridge
James Atlloud: oh yes, I'm the under-bridge type of person
Star Ravenhurst: So are you saying you are a Troll james?
James Atlloud: ha ha - if the shoe fits..
Thirza Ember: what I love about this grid, and about Vlad and Vanessa, is their spirit of community. Pierre, how many residents are there on Bloodmoon?
Pierre Segrov: We have 116 local users who come several times a month
Thirza Ember:they have brought together spanish and italian and french all on one grid all one family
Pierre Segrov: and the Brazilians, some Russians, some English, some Canadians
Thirza Ember: truly international... the reception team brings together several mother tongues too
Thirza Ember: so obviously, this is a representation of the city not an exact map, she is trying to express the general sense of the city.
Dings Digital: she succeeded
Marcel Dupree: La citta!

James Atlloud: the architecture is very effective.
Thirza Ember: luckily it's not sinking, while rl Venice will likely be uninhabitable in another 150 years, due to sinking
James Atlloud: sinking - I couldn't handle that emotionally
Lavia Lavine: Yes James it's a sinking feeling.
Cooper Swizzle: I love Venice, and have gone there 12 times over the years.
Eva Marie: nice!!
Thirza Ember: We can jump over to the Lido if you like, it's a part of Venice that not all tourists see. we also get to walk past some of the quaint corners of the old city
James Atlloud: What does Lido mean?
Thirza Ember: it's a beach basically, from the Latin and then Italian word littorale which means the shore.
Lavia Lavine: Give me a fishing boat
Eva Marie: I would love to windsurf
Thirza Ember: Monica has really gone to so much work to source the items here, including lots of activities like windsurfing
Star Ravenhurst: Activities are what make a region fun
Thirza Ember: Pierre, am I right in saying that Tuesday is the party day on Bloodmoon?
Pierre Segrov: That's right, every Tuesday evening, from 8:30 p.m. Paris time, and it lasts three hours
Thirza Ember: and there are so many nice venues on this grid, so there's lots of variety... this is the first time in a long time that our host hasn't been able to join us, but for sure we will be able to do many other events on Bloodmoon grid in the future
Star Ravenhurst: I feel so sad for her not being able to be here
Dings Digital: She created a wonderful experience for us here
Thirza Ember: I want to thank Pierre for being here to represent Bloodmoon grid
Pierre Segrov: Thank you Thirza for guiding the tour, Thank you all for your presence
Star Ravenhurst: Thank you Pierre
Cooper Swizzle: Very Well done
Dings Digital: Merci Pierre
Koshari Mahana: I have to say, Pierre, I LOVE your clothes, they are amazing.
Alex Salamander: Thank you Pierre
Max Well: this visit was pleasant
Thirza Ember: congratulations to Monica for her hard work!
