Fair Do's

Opensim Worlds Fair (OSWF for short) is getting closer, and on Saturday at 12.00 SLT there was another progress meeting for people interested in this project. The steering team - Kimm Starr, Koshari Mahana, and the magnificent Cooper Swizzle, were on hand to share the news, confirm details, get feedback and explain how it's still possible for you to participate in the event - there is still time to get on board!
At the meeting took place on the huge sim on Wolf Territories Grid, with some unique chairs and couches provided for the public.... all the fun of the fair!
That hatted figure you see silhouetted in these photos is, of course, grid owner Lone Wolf. For the address of the huge region housing the entire World's Fair, feel free to scroll to the end of the post, the traditional home of all HG Addresses on this blog.
The OSWF meeting space has all kinds of visuals to help you understand the upcoming event, including a map of the sim, a snapshot of the provisional schedule of entertainment events, and of course a link to the website where you can purchase a parcel at the fair, and get all the most recent updates.
Kimm Starr: we are just about at the 6 month mark from the event opening, on March 1, 2025, and we are getting excited! A great deal of building has already been done. Way more than half of the available parcels have been sold.
The Opensim Worlds Fair meetings are held in Discord rather than inworld voice.
I know it's not for everyone, but if you have/like Discord and wish to keep up with what's going on at OSWF, here's an invite to the OSWF Discord Server
To make things a bit more inclusive, yesterday's meeting also featured a real-time transcript typed into Local Chat so that all could follow the wide-ranging discussion. Here are a few of the main points made at the meeting, underlining some of the do's and don'ts associated with this community project.
Cooper Swizzle: as you can see behind us we have, to the left of the Worlds Fair exhibit there is a screen showing properties still available and to the right there is a spreadsheet, and you can see also todays agenda, September 28 is the next Opensim Worlds Fair meeting. We know that for a lot of you, this is a holiday weekend, but one of the biggest thing we like about Opensim Worlds Fair -  it's a great place for meeting people, so please don't forget to friend everyone here.
Kimm Starr: I'd like to talk about sponsor recognition. Please share your sponsor pictures, your logo, if you want to use that, a poster representing your exhibit. You can do this by clicking on the Exhibit tab in our Discord server, or you can email us your picture or logo to opensimworldsfair@gmail.com

Koshari Mahana: Rosa Alekseev is in charge of entertainment. The big sign you see with a lot of green in it, that is rosa's schedule and, if you notice, on sat march 1, we will have a big kick off event. In the morning it will be different acts, motown latin bollywood and rock and roll and in the evening there will be other sets, with 4 different stages  so we will be working on getting people moving efficiently.  Cooper, Kimm, and I will all be holding special events - but any exhibitor can host an event on their parcel, but please tell Rosa, so she can coordinate and add you to the schedule, and there won't be conflicts. That includes demonstrations, not just music. If you have new products, concepts, these also need to be in the schedule.

The team went on to outline various challenges, tools and tactics that are common to any big opensim event - keep your scripts to a minimum, don't crowd out your neighbors, try not to make trouble when it comes to content with dubious provenance, why is there lag/ghosting on a big collaborative build, when will there be an opensim viewer... all the old favorite subjects. Of particular note,  if you're planning on building here, do check out the Landing area, where a set of reliable and commonly used scripts are available, and res assured, the OSWF team plan to be as user-friendly as possible in resolving disputes or questions about content. Cooper urged people to avoid the vacuous and pointless gossip that always swirls around opensim events, which was the best advice anyone can give.
The build has come a long way in past months, with most of the central area already up.
It's a sort of funfair with bits by Kimm of course, like the shark ride, and also this pastel paradise install by Cherry Manga..
... this charming child playing...
...There's this unusual clock build, plus the ghoulie gateway...

... and another  nice bit already in place is by Kitely alum Mike McHugh.  it's wheel-y good!
In the runup to the grand opening, there will be all kinds of load test parties, and all builds need to be completed by January 31 2025 so that the inevitable kinks can be worked out before the doors open officially on March 1.
