Finale on Atraxia

Our final destination for this season was a chill trip to the trippiest, most unusual VAR regions in opensim, owned by 3D artist, photographer, and curator Nyx Breen, whose talent is well known but never everyday.  Nyx Breen was on Inworld Review  a few weeks ago, check out the interview in which he discusses both immersive digital art, and a bit about his rl work. and the HG  Address for this enormous build is at the end of the post, as tradition demands.
Nyx Breen
Nyx's work with EEPs (the Environmental Enhancement Project) has become something of a legend, he has hacked the usual expectations of sea and sky by adding all kinds of unusual and striking images, thus exploding the concept into a full blown art show that occupies all your senses rather than being a passive if pretty background. Every now and again, he changes the settings, creating yet another mood on the region.
Dorothea Lundquist: Hi Nyx :-)
Nyx Breen: hi there, everybody welcome
Forest Azure: heya nyx
Petlove Petshop: Thank you !! oh wow !
Nyx Breen: hope you all have the shared environment on... max out your shader settings also
Without 'Shared Environment'
Just in case you were wondering, if it really makes a difference if you change your settings to 'Shared Environment...
... well clearly it does, here are the 'without' and 'with' gifs to prove it.
The lighting effects on Nyx's sims are pretty smooth so they don't seem to bother people who are triggered by flashing lights, so that makes it group friendly. But obviously, if you're sensitive, think twice before going - your health matters! It's a wonderful experience, so if you can go, don't miss it, and take the time to see it as intended, you'll not regret it.  If you use Firestorm, and want a super quick way to change your Viewer to 'Shared Environment' so you get the full effect of these kinds of effects, then you might want to go to the toolbar that runs along the bottom of the screen click on the Firestorm Logo. At the bottom of the little Quick Preferences window, click on the little X where it says Personal Lighting. But you probably knew that already.  If you would like to know more about how Nyx manipulates EEPs, click on this link to hear and see a clip of him explaining his process, and the technology in general.
Forest Azure: oooh   wow
Dorothea Lundquist: my pc will explode if I put all on, but I see much
Dorothea Lundquist
Petlove Petshop: so immersive!
Tosha Tyran: wow. that is mesmerizing
Nyx Breen: hello all again welcome to Atraxia on Pangea
James atLLOUD: Hello Mr. Mesmer - I am now fully mesmerized.
Nyx Breen: ok Atraxia is an 8x8 VAR that is an EEP experience
Forest Azure: mesmerized.. you need mouth to mouth again, james?
Thirza Ember: glorious colors here Nyx
Nyx Breen: ty but lets change it I have about 4000 combinations now I can use.. look down at us from above, and swing your camera view around it gives a wild effect, then bring cam view below us and look up from below pull down deeper into water for a crazy effect This is the main LM
hop://pangeagrid.de:8002/Immersive%205/1041/1044/23 there a boats to use down the end of columns, walk around with your avatar to get the full effect, just stay on the blue texture
Jupiter Rowland
Jupiter Rowland: This really looks crazy gorgeous once Firestorm 7 has managed to make sense of it.
James atLLOUD: Nyx, there's some frightening figures in the distance, have you described those yet?
Nara Nook: Amazing build Nyx!
Nyx Breen: the zebra effect is just tweaking your sky effects
Thirza Ember: since this is the final Safari trip until September... do you guys have any Inworld Hints for people thinking of joining us next time?... what are your best suggestions
Siwas, Soa Bad, and Lifted Pixel
Lifted Pixel: texture layer underpants!
Nara Nook: keep your complexity below 100k
Star Ravenhurst: Empty your suitcase. Travel light.  A classic avatar causes less issues
Nyx Breen: visit my shit more often best advice :)
Star Ravenhurst: A classic avi doesn't have to be ugly
Nara Nook: sit when things are laggy
Thirza Ember: yes, agree - classic av and mesh clothes, with a few home made alpha layers, you can be at only 20k complexity quuite easily
James atLLOUD: Yes, I agree.
Star Ravenhurst: Look at Nara, she is beautiful!
Nara Nook: oh sweet. Thank you
Lifted Pixel: james is beautiful too!
Thirza Ember: OK, and suggestions for hosts? What would you like to see more of?
Nara Nook: nature
Star Ravenhurst: Very good builds of cities
Nara Nook: I like the interactive events where we get to play but those are hard with all of us
Lifted Pixel: i'm a big fan of vehicles
Star Ravenhurst: And trains and boats
Nara Nook: yeah that burning man train ride was fun
Nyx Breen: please use boats out in the water not on the platforms
Lifted Pixel: lol good luck trying to get safari to follow rules
Thirza Ember: OK and finally... what is the worst part of the Safari? Be honest
Lifted Pixel: lol boomers
Star Ravenhurst: People like me who leave everyone behind
Nara Nook: when we go somewhere with a bazillion textures so we all are frozen and nothing will rez
Nyx Breen: few textures here lol, this 8x var has less than 1900 prims on it
Nara Nook: I know, this is an excellent build, beautiful but lag free
Star Ravenhurst: You need to give your visitors times to look around and be sure they keep up with you
Neo Cortex: And then the host is asking everyone to take a copy of that danceball ;)  laggedy-lag... It is just the amount of data that needs to be sent to all of us in Safari at the same time. This region seems to work very well
Nyx Breen: I keep it clean marlon and the gang are good managers
Lifted Pixel: i think the worst is OK FOLLOW ME and they zoom off
Star Ravenhurst: Yes and you have no idea where they went
Thirza Ember: The trouble is they are super anxious, and it comes out by running
Alex and Yara exploring the sim by boat
Nyx Breen: personally I believe you create something different people will come back and explore -  this is just a taste
Thirza Ember: the idea of having boats here is great - I just got a beautiful gif of Alex and Yara  sailing
Lifted Pixel: idk i love weekly adult virtual show and tell
Thirza Ember: i love that there's never time to see everything, so there's always something to go back to see
Nara Nook: I have done that, gone back after Safari just to enjoy. The creativity in Opensim is amazing
Taarna Welles
Taarna Welles: I go back often
Lifted Pixel: i love to see what people are doing even if it's small, creating is what humans are supposed to do
Star Ravenhurst: As much as we love going to see places, the best part for me has always been able to hang out with everyone and meet new friends and build our community through Safari
Nyx Breen: the EEP sky is from a video game I created back in 84for commodores 64 :)
Star Ravenhurst: Wow that is amazing Nyx
Thirza Ember: there is a feeling of infinity here, and the music is such a perfect match
Nyx Breen: This space is available for performers
Thirza Ember: what kind of performers would you welcome Nyx? musicians? visual artists?
Forest Azure: jazz singers :)
Forest Azure
Nyx Breen:  any one any style, there is a club i had created for a Safari halloween dance party but due to scheduling rl it was not used last year
Thirza Ember: I think this fall we will have to have about 10 halloween parties, just to catch up
Nara and Neo
Nyx Breen: the black and white structure is the club walk over and experience it if you like
Nara Nook: that sounds like fun
Thirza Ember: so, if people come here when you're not online Nyx, what kind of sky will they see?
Nyx Breen: i change them a lot and we are still tweaking the interactive EEP viewer changes soon'
Thirza Ember: oh what will that be?
Nyx Breen: very soon I hope
Thirza Ember: how does that work?
Nyx Breen: you walk or interact with a prim it changes the eep setting in your personal viewer
Tosha Tyran: I just come back from a flying tour - what an adventure and what an explosion of colors and lights
Star Ravenhurst: Lifted you  are perfect in this setting! Lifted is always hard to photograph and make look good for me. This is perfect to capture her well...I hope
Lifted Pixel: haha thank you :3 i'm suprized i'm not disappearing under the textures
Star Ravenhurst: Well you glow
Forest Azure: you are an adult show and tell all by yourself :)
Thirza Ember: Lifted is Glow and Tell
Lifted mirrored in the sim sea
Thirza Ember: and Nyx, do you expect to begin combining PBR mirror effects inworld later this year? Will it change your art?
Taarna Welles: It's magic next level
Jupiter Rowland: I was about to ask that myself.
Nyx Breen: on another more powerful computer I have that loaded and am playing with some different things :)))))) just wait I promise madness rl is what is keeping me from attacking that full on. Try this LM, it is the glass balcony of the club awesome view -hop://pangeagrid.de:8002/Immersive%205/1161/893/52
Petlove Petshop: ok ty!
Thirza Ember: Nyx, I hope you can find a way to integrate more opensim special effects into your RL art projects... we all want to make a virtual trip to the RL art spaces you work in
Nyx Breen: well soon will have virt videos running along a street in several dozen buildings in the hoe city
Yara and Alex
Lifted Pixel: thank you thirza for another lovely season of safari! thank you nyx for sharing this awesome build! and thank you safari goers for being awesome...  see you guys in the fall :D
Tosha Tyran: A huge applause for Nyx

  1. I missed a lot of the future safari conversation so I'm glad you published it here. I got carried away piloting a boat which was quite unexpected on an eep demo! Great finale and thank you!
