Nyx by the Numbers

You have to admire a man who's bold enough to wear short shorts and if his shorts are short, that's the only thing he's short of. Space, time, energy and talent - Nyx Breen has got a lot of all of it.
This is Zahlensymbolik, on one of the Immersive VAR regions of Pangea grid, one of 6 grids where Nyx has a presence in opensim. Zahlensymbolik is a German word that suggests a lot of ideas - numerology, the symbolism of numbers or aspects of mathematics, the magic in counting. Deep stuff! However, never fear, this is not a superstitious sim, more a place where numbers are made to dance and delight.
Nyx Breen: The name sounded fun after I had used google translate English to German, more of play on the sound of it than the meaning. I'm a numbers person, yes - but more on the math side than the numerology side.
Nyx Breen
Zahlensymbolik (let's just call it 'Z')  started as a sim months ago, and then the effects took on a life of their own, with fewer prim and more effects. There are 8 sections here, each different.
Nyx Breen: As with all my spaces, I build up as I go, so as I developed the sim the concept of interacting more with the EEP side of the creation process became a stronger pull for me. The effects at Funkeln and Sky God sections of Z had a stronger EEP effect and particles and a little projection effects.
Pangea grid probably has the biggest collection of Nyx's art at present. A visit to his var region Immersive brings you into a series of art installations that are vast, colorful, full of movement, culture and verve. Just in the past couple of years EEPs have come to the forefront, first in SL and in Opensim - one wonders, is Nyx a recent convert to the art of making skies and sea effects?
Nyx Breen: no, it has always been a part of creating with me way back,  when I first came back to virtual worlds I had applied some basic effects with the sky - placing a rl picture of the sky with seagulls flying into it. It was rough but looked cool and had a tiled look... so not as smooth as the illusions I try to create so i placed it on the back burner as they say. It is a process that takes time to figure out and then the back side of it - creating the proper type of file and editing of it to create effects. It is a bit of a learning curve!
What has it meant for Nyx to find a home on this German language grid, apart from the fun of the Translator?
Nyx Breen: Pangea has allowed me to just go totally over to the surreal and creative side, and I am open to collaborating with artist and 3d art particle art images are all acceptable to me it is a 4x4 VAR size so lots of room I am looking for artists that are open to trying new things and new settings to display there art
Yes, that's right. The purpose of this area is for a confluence of creativity. If you're a photographer and are interested in having your images displayed in an unusual and definitely NPIRL setting, this is a chance for you to team up with Nyx. The grid has an ongoing event called the Pangea Art and Culture Festival The idea is to showcase  artists of every kind, whether well established or as yet unknown, and this vast  'gallery' offers yet another variation on the theme of welcoming creators and further push the boundaries of artistic representation in the virtual.
Nyx Breen: This will be a shared art space, you can see here some images by lampithaler Artist,  as you can see a different approach to developing a gallery space, holograms particles and effects with the images - that in turn pushed the development of the EEP side of the creation process. I was moved by the desire to create a different environment not seen before the idea to open the space and share it so that people would understand that art can be presented in OS virtual world in new different ways. Why build a prim gallery and make it like a rl gallery? been there done that - I do that in RL. VL is a place to create in new ways, to be different and explore the unseen possibilities. When I started Z the 8x8 var space I went full blown with EEP sky water underwater projections and holograms.

So, what's the best way to experience Nyx's art?
Nyx Breen: The challenge I see is that the environments I create are different and not seen before in OS  so it is unusual for people when they come, and some just are not equipped to explore or get around. The best way to see my art is to contact me... the earlier areas have Teleporters to get around, but I drop a LM folder on people the original LM for each sim on ground level starts most of the discovery on my spaces.

Nyx Breen:This is Ataraxia... it is almost all effects very low prim count. Cam around here, look down at water from above will freak you out, this is the developmental leap from Z to A, a newer more push on sky water effects to create the theme and feel of the place... ever see the water take on a 3d look before? You can change each part (sky - water) separately, use as a joint piece same look feel or different effects'. Figuring it out that took some work, and that is why I am doing a talk on it at the OSCC coming up.
Nyx's presentation will be on Saturday 9 December at 9.30 SLT (Pacific) = don't miss it!
