Futurelab and Fairies

It's been a while since the Safari visited Futurelab and South Horizon, regions that form one of the best art and performance regions  on Metropolis, and our return was a veritable four course feast of words, colors, music and remarkable images.

Juliette Surrealdreaming, the perfect hostess, led us seamlessly from place to place as we sampled a literary tribute, an original installation, a curated show of 'rl' art, and a fabulous light show. HG Addresses of the places we visited at the end of the post.

It was a triumph of presentation, and while one or two crashed out, about 20 of us were able to enjoy the whole show.  Please, if you come on Safari with us, there is a good chance that teleports will not work first time, you may crash or get lost, so, make sure you FRIEND other tour members, then, if you crash, we will see you go offline, and if you get lost, we can try to help you get back to the group.

First, the literary. This year is the 25th anniversary of Snow Crash, the novel credited with putting the word 'metaverse' on the map years before the rise of virtual worlds. In a set designed by Hyde Hackl, Art Blue explained to us why he admires Neal Stephenson so much. We took our seats and enjoyed the exposition by Art, followed by a reading by Juliette.
Leighton Marjoram: clapping
George Equus: APPLAUSE!!
Art Blue: For the talk about SNOW CRASH we need to work out first some definitions and a basic understanding of what we will talk. Neal Stephenson begins his book SNOW CRASH with the definition of three keywords and they are?  SNOW, CRASH and VIRUS
Art Blue at the desk, with Juliette Surrealdreaming up on stage.

Art then explained what these terms mean in the novel, valiantly keeping to the script despite us all making silly and funny comments to try to distract him. As usual.
Art Blue:  "The Deliverator used to make software.  Still does, sometimes.  But if life were a mellow elementary school run by well-meaning education Ph.D.s, the Deliverator's report card would say: "Hiro is so bright and creative but needs to work harder on his cooperation skills."
Art Blue: "So now he has this other job.  No brightness or creativity involved -- but no cooperation either.  Just a single principle: The Deliverator stands tall, your pie in thirty minutes or you can have it free, shoot the driver, take his car, file a class-action suit.  The Deliverator has been working this job for six months, a rich and lengthy tenure by his standards, and has never delivered a pizza in more than twenty-one minutes.” This is how the future is described in SNOW CRASH 1992. What we can learn out of this? Look at now. All is true:
Art Blue: MUSIC: true – Apple
Art Blue: MOVIES: true – Netflix
Art Blue: Microcode: true – Android
Art Blue:  High-speed pizza? TRUE … here the pizza comes, a free slice for everyone … ((lol, script is not implemented, too many Safaristas today))
Moving on, we visited the remarkable show In the Green by Norton Lykin, originally shown in Second Life.
The art installations on Futurelab and South Horizon regions on Metropolis are really easy to navigate, the teleporters are clearly marked and efficient, and that makes a big difference when you're exploring such a large and interesting exhibit area.
On arrival at In the Green, there are some contextualizing boards that give the genesis of the build, and the collaboration between Norton and the others.

Juliette SurrealDreaming: You are invited to walk around and investigate... Unfortunately Norton was unable to attend. We'll move over to our final destination in 10 minutes. So please enjoy exploring. This cube by the way is huge, and there are many aspects of it... i suggest putting your graphics on high and midnight
Lucy tours the build

Lucy Afarensis: lovely music on the stream

It really is a beautiful place, juxtaposing severe, straight lines like city blocks with an untamed green mysterious light - one might say, an urban jungle inhabited by shadow people, arounsing curiosity and watchfulness but never, despite the darkness, perhaps because of the soothing green color, straying from the strange into the unsettling.

It is a wonderful build, and well worth visiting, thank goodness opensim makes it possible for builds like this to be left up virtually indefinitely.

Then, off we went to a gallery floating meters above the shining sea. The paintings of Egon Tschirch curated, in this inworld exhibition, by Juliette Surrealdreaming.

Juliette SurrealDreaming: Welcome Everyone to South Horizon. When i stumbled across Tschirch's powerful paintings i knew that i wanted to exhibit them in my gallery in Second Life. I brought them instantly to Art Blue and asked if he would be willing to give an Art Talk around them. How happy i was when he instantly agreed... the addition of a performance by Venus Adored makes it a complete venue!
The genius of Venus Adored's particle show, in the South horizon gallery

And at last, Venus Adored shared with us her brilliant light show.
Tosha Tyran: very, very cool!
George Equus: Fantastic show  Smooth and fluent all the way
xSIBERIAx ILFREDDOPURIFICA: thank you a lot venus... :)
Juliette SurrealDreaming: it was incredible as always and again the chills!!!!

Ataro Asbrink: Thank you Art, Juliette, Venus!!
Juliette SurrealDreaming: We have two spots not visited today, which are the sim landing spots *underwater* when using the world map to TP to Futurelab   or South Horizon.  You are welcome to visit those now or return at a later time to explore the GreenHouse at Futurelab and the Country Cottage here at South Horizon.
Yara Eilde: Applause
Juliette SurrealDreaming: I have a Notecard with the LMs for all locations visited today, if you did not receive it, let me know and i pass it to you. Thank you Thirza and HG Safari for allowing us to share with you. Thank you all so much for coming. I wish you a wonderful rest of your day or evening.

After these four magnificent facets of our Metropolis trip, off to see a gem of a sim!

Opensimlife is relatively new grid that's gained a well deserved reputation for both stability and a healthy bias towards the social rather than the materialistic.

Bill Blight the grid owner made, in record time, a simply lovely region, terraformed to magical effect, and complete with a castle, dancefloor, and spangly trees. The event was designed to celebrate Visionz editor in chief, Sunbeam Magic
who, with and her team of writers and editors, has spent the past three years traveling the hyperverse and writing positive, amusing and useful articles about the people and places they have encountered. Sunny has had a few tribulations to deal with this summer, so it was lovely to see so many friends take the time to come inworld and jut remind her how much the work Visionz does matters.
Sunbeam.Magic @3rdlifegrid.com:8002: LEIGHTON!!! HUGS you so tight thank you for coming hon!!!

There was a surprise musical guest, Singergirl and her lovely backing dancers. Here they are dancing on Bill's latest creation, the magic mushrooms! There were many appropriate hits like 'I will survive', 'We are family' and 'Le freak'... when Freaky Tech arrived...
Sunbeam.Magic: Singer is amazing singer!!! She is a featured musician in this month's issue of HG Visionz btw

  1. Thank you so much for suggesting this special Fairy party for Visionz and myself Thirza. Although I've been MIA the last 3 months, this uplifting show of love and support inspired me to 'keep on trucking' as they use to say in my day lol I was most humbled and honored with this tribute, and to have my old friend Virtual Christine show up, what a bonus! We've missed her so... and SingerGirl taking the stage was a big surprise, a real happy Birthday gift! She is amazing! Thank you my friend! HUGS ♥
